Foreman Liston Ali right pre exile Lewis Holmes maybe I think Holyfield, Louis and Tyson would be close fights too.
Good picks, I think Frazier would shadow Holmes in a beauty over 15. You've always seemed confident that Lewis would beat Frazier. I think it is a hair on a razor myself. I have no idea who would win this one. I certainly don't think 3-0 is possible. A lot would depend what plan Lewis would bring. He has the tools to stop Joe, but would he deploy them? Very, very close fight in my opinion.
I'm not going to start throwing around names, but truthfully, I think there are probably very few who would have defeated this version of Joe. He was at the very top of his fight game, and as far as he was concerned, was unbeatable. Of course, there are some fighters that I think could have taken him due to stylistic reasons, physical advantages, etc. But the number of men whom I bet money on to beat him are sparse.
I disagree on Johnson if we are talking 15 rounds. I don't think Frazier could stop Johson, but I think he would edge a decision on the aggression and the pressure. Any longer, I have no idea. Marciano - I would make Frazier a slender favourite. I think he could score a stoppage on cuts, he's too tough for Rocky to bully should he hit trouble. I conceed a decisio could go either way. Dempsey - it's Jack early or Joe late. I lean towards Joe, but another very close fight.
I would pick: Prime Ali Foreman Tyson Lennox Lewis Joe Louis I think he beats: Holmes Marciano Liston Not sure on: Holyfield Jack Johnson Dempsey
George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Joe Louis and Mike Tyson would beat him in my opinion. Marciano and Dempsey have a shot, but i wouldn't be as confident as i'd be about the former mentioned. Others would succumb either by close decision (Ali, Holmes) or discombobulating knockout (Johnson).
It'd be close, Holmes - Frazier. I'd sure never get into heated debate on that one. As for Lewis, well i have great confidence in his chin and ability when he is facing big challenges around his best. Personally i think he's a terrible match for Joe. As chris will tell you, when faced with his greatest challenges power wise Lewis often came out aggressively and looking to land big leather early. This doesn't sit well for Frazier. He also has the immense size and poise to tie Joe up well and lean on him. Not to mention his enormous uppercut. I like him here, a lot.
I'm going out on a limb here...James J. Jeffries. Massive endurance, toughness and strength. Can hit a bit too. It's a definite 'maybe' for me.
1 - Frazier could win by KO. 2 - Lewis has to stop Frazier to win 3 - Lewis could certainly stop Frazier. Apart from this i'm not sure of anything. If we take the Lennox Lewis that fought Mike Tyson - brilliant off the back foot in round one, he took his time dismantling Mike. I think that FOTC Joe Frazier jets into a lead on the cards agaist that fighter. Then Lewis has to come on and stop Joe without getting tagged with the left hook. If he behaves like he did against Bruno he'll quite possibly get stopped looking for the killer blow. He needs that Grant-like aggression to get this job done in my opinion. Frazier will up and down him all night if he tries to box. I suppose I would make Lewis a slender favourite, but I really don't see aything meaningfull between them, and if Lewis comes in stupid I pick Joe.
I don't know about that. I always thought Lewis boxed fairly cautiously when faced with the shorter hard punchers. He certainly didn't blaze away against Tua and even against a shot Tyson he systematically broke him down rather than imposing himself upon him from the get go.Hell he was even watchful for a couple of rounds with Justin Fortune. That said I like Lewis here also, but for different reasons.I think he would use his huge size advantage, reach and jab to rack up a points lead and then when Frazier is battered and swollen he'd step it up and probably stop him late. I don't think Lennox would risk trying to blow Joe out ala Foreman as he was too smart a boxer to put his chin on the line like that.Foreman could only fight one way but Lewis had a versatility that allowed him to adopt a game plan to suit whichever style of opponent he faced.
