Who would Calzaghe have to fight to get your respect

I think the people who dont rate Joe's main gripe, and I can empathise, is not who he should fight but who he could have fought. He wasted 10 years making WBO defences.

 

While I agree with that in-part, I dont feel he "wasted" 10 years in making defences.

He fought Reid, Brewer, Mitchell, Sheika in that time which to be honest, is much better competition than fighting Lucas, Beyer, Siaca, Ottke.

The only reason that people dont value those wins as much, is because they didnt actually hold their titles at the time Joe fought them. Dont forget Reid and Brewer had just been robbed against Ottke in Germany. Sheika had just come off a win over Glen Johnson who many people feel that Calzaghe should have fought.

As for fighting RJJ and B-hop. I know the fight in 2002 didnt come off, but the fight against RJJ was never even an option, it was never on the cards. So you cant accuse either of ducking eachother.

Just think if the Calzaghe fights against Tate and Johnson had actually gone ahead rather than Tate pulling out of the first one and Calzaghe pulling out of the latter, people would be saying well ok who has he fought other than

no one would have been acceptable to people who do not like calzaghe unless dlh/tito wright would have agreed to fight him , which they never did and never would have .

theres no one he can fight to convince the American fan....

Personally I think he is the Yank that has given Joe the most trouble. I have no reason to believe that Hopkins is not just another Lacy

I'm not sure about this Kyle Pavlik. Until he proves he's not the white Lacy I think we can safely presume that he is

 

Hmm, although many of the people criticising Calzaghe on here seem to think that he should have spent those 10 years inventing a time machine so that he could have fought against Roy Jones and James Toney instead.

 

I was about to write the same thing until i read yours. Its too late now, his career is a good one not a great one.

 

He's never fought outside the US, therefore we can safely discount anything he may accomplish until he gets a passport and fights in Europe.

 

Calzaghe already has my respect

 

Joe needs a US passport to get some peoples respect.

Then they'd be on here saying he was P4P#1.
