No because Cotto is natural Welter weight and it diminishishes the win. Cottos resume at the minute isn't as strong as Hattons overall.
Hattons only loss coming form p4p king, above his wegith class and wasn't expected to win. Cottos from someone who wasn't even in anyones top 20p4p and was an underdog.

Cotto has no wins over a p4p fighter at the time of the fight thus far and has only won vacant titles.

  2. Pacman and JMM.

If he beats Pacman I can see him fighting JMM.

Very slim chance he'll fight Mosley, almost 0 chance infact. He won't ever fight Williams and he won't fight at 154.Fact

This is the reason why it is in fact very unlikely that Hatton will ever get another chance to convince most of us he was the best fighter in the world. He had his chance and blew it.

Thats debatable. They are very comparable in some ways but personally I think Cotto has the slightly stronger resume.
Hatton doesn't have any wins over a prime p4p fighter either

If he beat Pacquiao he goes along way to being nearly the no1. I think if he beat marquez as well it would help. But people may call that both of them were coming from lower weight divisions. So if Hatton was to beat Cotto then that place would be firmly his.

If Pac looses is will be interesting to see who becomes P4P #1. It wont be Hatton. Possibly Shane, maybe JMM ? It might even remain Pac

You might be right but if he beats Pac and JMM in his next 2 fights,it'll be very hard to say he is anything other than #1.Hatton will consider himself #1 if he beats Pac which is why it wouldn't be so bad if Pac won, because we wouldn't hear Hatton banging on about it like he is at the moment. It doesn't work that way,if he beats Pac I'll have him 3/4 and then a win over JMM would surely be enough

    JMM
    Shane
    Hatton/Pac
    Hatton/Pac

Thats my take on things if Hatton were to win

Both Pacquiao and Marquez would in most people's eyes have a better claim to be the best fighter in the world than Hatton even if Hatton beat them both, because they came from much lower down. I'll make a poll to attempt to prove it.

:goodTrue this could always be used against him so a W over Cotto would be more beneficial for his p4p ranking IMO.

Hattons best win is over a p4p top 3 in Tszyu. Kostya admitted the version that Hatton fought was one that would have KO'd any previous version of himself. He was prime or near to it. He KO'd Mitchell 6 months earlier. It was simply due to Hattons pressure and Tzsyus handling of it (see Vince Phillips) he can and will not ever be able to deal with pressure fighters. Thats why Hatton won, not because Tzsyu was shot. He was a massive favourite.

Seriously Hattons win over Kostya rapes anything Cotto has to offer. The win over Mosley looks ok now.. but at the time Mosleys was not a p4p fighter. Only after beating a stationary Margo is he back in there now.

Thats not exactly accurate though pacman can't make 135 now so he is a 140 plus fighter, jmm is 135/140 now, the guys you mentioned before such as williams are alot bigger than hatton so why would he have to beat them.
