Who Would Have Won If Haye Didnt Wreck His Achilles?

The heavier and more skilled fighter. Same as Martinez should have blown Cotto out of there when they fought.

 

Bellew did his homework. Early as round 1 he was timing Haye coming in with left hooks. Throwing the straight right as Haye tried recovering. He was avoiding Hayes ridiculous haymakers. I really didn't understand wtf Haye was doing at times.

 

Watching it again I honestly believe Haye was injured going in to the fight, make no mistake Bellew deserved his win and I'm taking nothing away from him.

But have a look at Haye from the start, he was all over the place, very wild, off balance with his attacks and didn't look to have much power or as much power has he previously had and I believe that was because his achilles was already gone and he couldn't put any real pressure on that leg.

Haye wanted to finish that fight super quick, there was no setting traps, setting up his attacks and absolutely no patience because that injury was in his mind, he know it could go any second.

The midweek trip to Germany during fight week and the rumours the fight was going to be called off now seem a little too coincidental, an achilles injury was being talked about then so I can't see this all being coincidence.

So after all that, I believe Bellew on that night would have won anyway if the achilles didn't completely go because Haye was already injured and couldn't generate the power to seriously trouble Bellew.

As for a completely fit and 100% Haye, we will have no idea but Bellew proved himself to be far better, far more controlled and more intelligent than most people thought.

 

There should be a rematch...................

 

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Bellew easily won the first round, then broke his hand in the second. That's when Haye started to look slightly better than Bellew, until his heel went. So, it would be similarly appropriate to guess that if neither fighter got hurt, Haye still would have lost.

I think it's fairly clear that Hayes weight gain, age, accumulated injuries have all wreaked havok with his fight game, which never seemed suited to fighting at an advanced age.

 

Haye was already dominating the fight before the injury. That SHOULD tell you right there who would have won that fight.

 

Yeah, but Haye was still doing enough to win the rounds while looking like a total buffoon!

 

Bellew ought to face whoever the highest bidder for his services is. Bellew/Haye II will sell to the Brits even if it happens 5 years from now, so I'd try to milk it a tad with a fight against one of the top dogs.

 

Yeah he won a couple of those hobbling around.
