I'm sure this will have been done before but in the late 90s and early 00s the welterweight division was even better than it is now IMO, and unfortunately 2 of it's shining stars never faced off for one reason or another. Anyway I'd like to know who you think would have won had Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad faced off?
Mosley UD. Too fast with the fists and quick on his feet. Trinidad had a big punch, but that is offset by Mosley's rock-hard chin.
This one's been done a lot of times...I'll go with Trinidad and his accurate punching. Mosley's never been that good of a defensive boxer, he's a speedy slugger and leaves too many openings for a hard accurate hitter like Tito.
Mosley was hurt badly by Forrest, and despite his reflexes and overall quickness, he was never very difficult to hit as he was very prone to engaging his opponent. He would be going up against a precision puncher with much bigger power than any man he ever faced. Trinidad wins IMO.
Mosley wins a dec. Tito couldn't box chocolates as hopkins, winky & roy showed. Mosley simply too fast & far superior boxing skills.
And look what Wright did to Trinidad. I know that wasn't prime Trinidad in there, but I believe that Mosley (post-Forrest I) was somewhat damaged goods as well. Style wise I think that prime WW Mosley matches up well against prime WW Trinidad.
Mosley's boxing skills aren't very good either. He's just fast and flashy, but he slugs more than boxes anyway.
I believe Tito would have won, probably by late stoppage at 147. It's a horrible stylistic match-up for Mosley. If he tried to slug it out, he'd be badly hurt. Trinidad was a monster puncher at welter, the best since Tommy Hearns. If he tried to box and move, I think Tito could walk him down and grind it out. Tito did this to Pernell Whitaker, and even a well well past-prime Sweet Pea is more skilful boxing on the back-foot than any version of SSM. Welterweight was Tito's weight, he wins this one.
i agree with d-mac. although shane doesn't KO tito - he would get a solid UD based as previously stated on chin and fast hand speed
I agree to a degree, but have to say that Tito wasn't exactly a wizard on defence and that he could be hurt and put down.
