LOL is this even worth posting a poll for?

    Vitali obviously.

That said, Byrd is clever enough to make the distance imho.

The purpose of the poll is a few posters make constant references to the fight and try to act like it wasn't a fluke result. I wanted to see who would put their name down and vote for Byrd.

The problem for Vitali in this fight is he quit on his stool. "It hurts too much"

Knowledgable historians look very much down on endings of this type when trying to rate vs an ATG that could not be stopped with a hammer.

    Perry,

The following fighters quit in many cases with lesser injuries. Off the top of my head, I'll list some known heavyweights

    E. Charles, J. Johnson, H. Wills, S. Langford, S. Liston, M Tyson. If not for Dundee, Ali quits too.

If you want some lower weights, how about Sugar Ray Robinson, or Roberto Duran.

I assure you if I research a bit I can add at least a dozen more name fighters.

Historians did not hammer them most of them. And all of them are in the boxing hall of fame.

There are various degrees of quitting. Many fighters opt not to get up. How many fighters have you seen get up at 11? As Ali aptly put it 90% of the fighters can beat the count but choose not to. In other cases, they let their corner surrender.

In my opinion, Vitali knowing a thing or two about the anatomy as a sports doctor feared permanent injury, and opted out, not knowing how the press would view it. If the fight was for higher stakes, or at the very end of his career he'd finish it.

But this thread is not about the injury that required surgery to fix. It's about the re-match. Who woudl you pick?
