    He was a very good boxer, not great power but not so sure he would be able to survive too long with Rocky

    The obviosu answer to me seems to be archie moore.

    He was seen as the man to beat once rocky retired and I'm pretty sure he was a favourite over patterson.

    I think an immediate rematch would have followed.

    Man, I don't know about that. Marciano beat him pretty horrifically when he got around to it.

    He did but the division was pretty bleak at retirement. Why fight valdes when moore is still out there?

    Maybe he'd have hung around for the winner of floyd v jackson but even then I think moore beats jackson and calls for a rematch again.

    I'm fairly certain the only reason they never fought again was because rocky retired.

    I understand, but how many immediate rematches have occured after a terrible thrashing when the title didn't change hands?

    Very few but how many people remain number 1 contender after such a terrible thrashing?

    Plus his status as lhw champ was still very secure.

    I think it's none...I could be wrong though. I would be pretty astonished if they didn't look for a fresh opponent, interesting that there is no kind of agreement upon who it would be though.

    I'm just a fan of Summerlin, I like his boxing, and I think he got underated badly, some film has popped up now though.

    He would have gotten his head handed to him of course, but that's all part of the Rocktastic fun!

    That's the point I think. They would have lined someone up and a guy as active as moore coming off a loss seems like an ideal last test before a title shot. I think moore beats whoever is lined up for the next title shot unless that man is patterson.

    by the time Marciano retire, Moore was really the only stand out guy.

    I agree with the Moore rematch. Hell Archie was still rank number 1 when Rocky retire.

    Patterson would not have been number 50th. He was no were near the top ten. Valez as said before had a bad showing vs Bob. The only real fight out there was a Moore rematch.
