Yeah, but Lemieux was like 22 years old and pretty green. He's improved since then.

Pacquiao was KO'd 2 times by unknowns in back alleys of Thailand yet he went on to be the fighter of the decade, Lemieux got rabbit punch by a Knockout artist with more KO's than GGG has had matches, but Lemieux will never live that down, you guys really need to get a grip.

Potential tough opponents that GGG will never fight, because they dont bring willy monroe, or lemule type money:

    1)ward
    2)Lara

What would you be saying right now about GGG if he'd been dropped brutally twice by Angulo and once by Darnell Boone.:think

If that were the case, Golovkin would have a new third best opponent fought.

Matthew Macklin has to be in the top 5. He was highly thought of at the time. He basically beat Sturm, did really well against middle weight kingpin Sergio Martinez and he destroyed alcine in a round after he beat David lemiux.

Lemeiux popping up in this thread for all the wrong reasons.

He has lost to 2 of the only 4 non-journeyman fighters he has ever faced. And, well, some would argue 3 of those 4 were indeed journeymen relative to the world stage, too.

The rounds Macklin won against Martinez were close and he didn't really drop Sergio did he? As far as Sturm goes he isn't that hard to beat lately and the match was close and Alcine has good nights and bad nights, add to that Lemieux being terrified if he came out strong trying to blow away an opponent that he might gas and lose like he did to Rubio, he didn't have the right mindset for that match. It happens.

A guy who exposed Lemieux and was KO'd in 2 by GGG must surely rank higher than a win over Lemieux himself no matter how "green" he was

Who said anything about cherry picking? This is ranking opponents

I still think he's more accomplished than the other guys after Murray and Geale. Not sure how to rank guys like Stevens and Rubio.

We can argue nuances all night, but he got knocked out by a puncher, and outpointed by a guy who has been knocked out multiple times including in the very first round

he has zero signature impressive wins (N'Dam? getting outboxed but saved by knockdowns isn't new to him, see the Quillin fight)

again, this isn't ****ting on Lemieux, it's just looking at the evidence

Not a damn thing... A win is a win, no matter what adversity a fighter has to go through to pull it off.. every fighter has to face it, its part of the sport, but it still stands in my mind those 2 guys are the toughest opponents GGG is reluctant to face..Lara brings no money, but monroe is a cash cow....Ill fight froch and chavez jr at 168, but i want Ward at a CW..see where im going with this?

you say Sturm hasn't looked hard to beat "lately" but Macklin fought him in like 2011, when he was in much better form and hadn't lost before that since 2006

also, many people thought Sturm beat Murray in the fight after
