50/50 fight. I can see Pavlik getting the early rounds but if he can't knock out Abraham . . . Abraham is very much capable of winning the later round when Pavlik starts to slow down. Both fighters are very much capable of knocking each the out . . . that's what 's making this fight interesting. :deal I'm leaning on Pavlik at this point.
Only No 1 is really an opinion but based on very strong evidence. All others are well established facts for anyone who really followed both guys careers.
I'm an English teacher so you have to expect me to be a bit pedantic about such things. As I said, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Pavlik by brutal stoppage, sure Abraham has power but its distributed with wide, slow, telegraphed and looping hooks(ever seen a bar fight?)
It took Hagler 3 rounds to demolish Hearns and it took Leonard 14. We all know how that pairing turned out don't we... And how is Zuniga a better win? That's opinion, just as NBT's 'facts' might be.
Either Pavlik on points or Abraham by stoppage. It could go either way this one, I can't pick a winner.
Well, English is not my native language so I think I get a pass for that. :yep How many AA fights have you seen? Doesn't seem like more than 1, Miranda 2, right? He only used "wide, slow, telegraphed and looping hooks" at the end for the finishing touch, because he could, Miranda was done. The shot that started the damage was a textbook straight right.
Most of us used to believe that Miranda was a monster, and destined to be a really big deal at 160-168. Now days, based on the fact that Miranda has lost evertime he stepped up against a world class opponent, hardly anyone believes that. Zuniga has had lots of trouble securing big fights, but based on what he's done in his last few outings, I think he is WAY better than Miranda.
Zuniga atsch I told you Miranda was horse **** and would amount to nothing. Now you've hopped on Zuniga's jock. He's trash too and will get splattered against anybody world class. We've just got to face up to Pavlik's competition pre (and post) Taylor being horrible. That's all there is to it.
Look first at physical attributes. Pavlik is 6' 2 1/2". Abraham is 5' 10". Pavlik has 75" of reach. AA has 72" of reach. Abraham has the arms and shoulders of a weight lifter. He's much bigger through the chest than Pavlik. Kelly is long and lean. All of this probably amounts to Kelly having something like a 2-3 inch arm length advantage. Pavlik is incredibley strong. I doubt if Arthur is a match for Kelly as far as brute physical strength. Most all the physical advantages go to Kelly. Hand and foot speed is about equal. If there is any advantage here it's that Pavlik's footwork is grossly under rated. Now look at styles. Pavlik likes to stand outside and bang. He moves forward behind a very good jab, and is very good at judging and controling distance. Arthur likes to use patience, and set up good counter punches. Counter punching against a guy who has a 3" arm length adavantage, and likes to stay outside, is VERY difficult. Arthur's tendency to lunge with his counter right will get him in trouble. Pavlik throws 80-90-100 punches per round. And, it's like McKart said, "It's not that he hits ya that hard; it's just that everything he throws has somethin' on it." Arthur throws 35-40 punches in a good round, and a lot of his punches a very wide. A straight punch covers more distance than a wide punch. Arthur's wide punches make his arm length deficit even more pronounced. In addition, Pavlik's work rate is more than enough to keep Arthur on the defense. When AA goes on defense he likes to back up to the ropes or into a corner, and get in his shell, but he's not like Winky. He does not have those unnaturally long arms. He cannot protect his head and body at the same time, and Pavlik is a murderous body puncher. Moreover, on the ropes is right where Pavlik wants AA. When Pavlik has a man on the ropes he uses his under rated footwork to turn the ring into a ****ing phone booth and unleash hell on his opponent. We're not talking about Edison Miranda who hasn't got a clue how to finish his man. We're talkiing about one of the very best finishers in the game. Pavlik KO8 Abraham. That's been my prediction since way before AA rematched Miranda. I saw nothing in that fight that would change my mind.
I doubt that He's taller and has the arm length advantage. When it comes to toughness, chin and punching power AA has the advantages on his side. AA has fought so many opponents which were taller than he is. Do you think that Pavlik knows how to deal with AA's punches? I don't think he has fought such a brutal puncher before. His usual boxing style will not work against AA. If Pav makes the mistakes he did against Taylor he won't succeed.
