I wondered if Marquez could 'out veteran' him since chances of the knockout are practically non existant, but even if he did, he won't get the decision in Germany.
No chance. From what I saw against Lorenzo this guy is an absolutely prime candidate to make the highlight reel. Trust me Abraham's PR team will have to edit their YouTube video very soon. He's going to come to Abraham, throw lots of punches, but always open to the counters.
I don't give him much of a chance, but he should be smart enough to know what he needs to do and not do. Hit him from 'range' and move out of the way for 30 seconds per round. SOUNDS easy enough.
Didn't look a great fighter at range to me. Most of his effective work was done at mid to close against Lorenzo, Lorenzo had the better of it from distance. He's not very long, quick or adept at counterpunching so he'll have no chance of hitting and not being hit. Stick a fork in him.
Hehe That reminds me of Wayne Elcock. He won all rounds against AA, but the second action AA started was already the last for Elcock. AA simply doesn't have to do much against average fighters. Soon or later he will get his chance. It's a risky strategy, but it has worked very well so far.
Dont kid yourself. The best counterpuncher in the business managed to time Joe a few times, very few others ever have with any consistency. If joe finds something aint working he changes his plan to something that does. Joe eats comefoward fighters like Kelly - they play into his strengths and down play he his flaws. I'd be surprised if it didnt go very much like the Kessler fight - close for a bit then Joe pulls away in the middle rounds. If Joe feels good vs Jones and wins well I wouldnt be at all shocked to see this fight happen as there will be a lot of money on the table unless Kelly loses.
Kessler was a huge disappointment. I didn't pick him to win, but damn, he looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights for much of that fight. I'm still not sure if it was the hand injury or a severe heart problem that made him so tenative. Trust me, Kessler is not a good comparison. IF joe ever finds his balls, Pavlik will make him lose them again within 8 rounds, and knock joe the **** out inside 10. ALL of joe's many flaws play right into Pavlik greatest strengths.
stop making **** up to back up your arguments! Kessler put in a stellar performance on the night, the first 4/5 rounds I was cacking myself for Joe as Kessler was landing clean shots and Joe had nothing. Then Joe stopped trying to outduke him and put in his classic "spoiler" boxing and Kessler had nothing. To say he was tentative is wrong, he was just hitting air. Check the final round again and watch Kessler throwing Haymaker after Haymaker, not my definition of tentative at all. Calzaghe UD Pavlik. He won't knock him out, and probably won't embarrass him as much as Lacy. Kessler fight is an ideal comparison.
I wonder how many of ya'll change your mind after Pavlik defeats Hopkins easier than Calzaghe did... :hey
I've been a Calzaghe fan for longer than anyone else on this board (probably) and his decline has been too great of late. He had a blip in his career where he strung a few poor performances together 4-5 year ago and got decked a couple of times. Last time out, he had a poor performance and got decked because he has slowed - not because he was in midstream attack and was off balance like before - he just got decked. He looked slow, vulnerable and a little shaky against Hopkins. This was after a perfect training camp and he was full of confidence. Calzaghe is done. If he meets Pavlicks then he will get Pav-licked.
Nowadays I'd agree but in Joe's prime, he would have smashed that over rated plodding one dimensional slighty-better-than-a-bum.
