I'd love to see that interview with Jones talking about Robinson. Nice to hear that he acknowledged Robinson as greater than him p4p. If only certain other all-time greats would do the same.

And I agree with Roy and you re Jones v Robinson and Jones v Leonard at 160.

87 Hagler - probably. But we only have the one fight to judge Hagler on and he wouldn't have fought the same way he did against Leonard if he had been fighting Jones. Hagler's 'tactics' against Leonard were specific to his opponent. I don't believe Hagler would have fought orthodox for the opening rounds against Roy. His ego wouldn't have clouded his judgement in the same way.

A prime ww version of Leonard ('82 time) moving up to middleweight was what was on the cards at the point of his retirement, except he would have been challenging a prime Marvin Hagler instead.

I don't see a completely one sided beatdown like the Norris fight, although I certainly favour Roy.

Roy by the time he left 160 was insane. After that brilliant starching of Tate he moved straight up and utterly schooled Toney. It would be fair to say he had entered the peak of his powers, even as early as it was. His combination of speed and power along with the cat like reflexes were basically unfair to others.

Ray is just too small to overcome this sort of immense talent with such a natural size disadvantage. Jones showed no durability problems until the considerable weight fluctuations (eventually, way down the track) caught up with him. Whether it was 87 Ray or one moving up around his first retirement would make no difference to who won for mine.

Jones would make 87 Hagler look like he was fighting in slow motion imo.

Leonard knocked out a light heavy so I feel he could have matched Roy`s power as could Robi because he stopped Fullmer with one shot, I also feel Robi could have beaten eveybody that Roy beat at 175, but I don`t feel Leonard could have, he didn`t look as good as Roy at 175 despite carrying his power up.

Roy may have been quicker than Ray at 160 but Ray was smarter and his footwork against Hagler was just as clever as it was in the 2nd Duran fight at 147 just slower, his sudden changing of direction was something Roy never showed, and Roy couldn`t have taken the shots Ray knocked Lalonde out with, if Ray caught him with those shots he would have knocked Roy out.

What light heavy did Ray knock out? Lalonde was 8 pounds under due to contract stipulations. There's a good chance this didn't help him any.

Leonard would not remotely match Jones power at 160. He'd have good power for sure, maybeeeeeee even very good tho it's debatable.

Robinson is certainly in that convo, he has multiple displays of big power at the weight.

You are too tunnel visioned here and i just remembered you copping a pasting for bagging Jones endlessly a while back.

There's no saying Jones couldn't take the shots that knocked Lalonde out, probably a substantially weight drained Lalonde at that. Even less likely is that Ray lands clean shots in rapid succession against Jones.

You need to flip the coin and open the other eye. What in gods name happens when Jones lands those insane left hooks such as he did against Tate and co? Against a blown up welterweight?

If someones getting stopped it's far far more likely to be Ray.

Roy might have been a more powerful middleweight tan Ray but I still don`t think his chin could take the shots that knocked Lalonde out and Robi was a savage puncher to the body which is what wrecked the iron tough LaMotta who Roy could not have stopped, I also don`t know if Roy could have stopped Fullmer with the kind of shot that Robi did.

Leonard was harder to hit than Thomas.

Robi was smarter at setting up traps to knock out fighters than Roy was:
