A complete reverse of the expected.

Rocky Marciano by decision, albeit the narrowest of calls.

    Marciano Advantages:

    Power
    Stamina
    Strength
    Chin

    Frazier Advantages:

    Speed
    Defense
    Weight
    Combination punching

    Even:
    Heart
    Ring smarts

This basically would be a toe to toe fight that would be no different in a 30 foot ring or a 5 foot ring. I think Marciano's power would take it's toll on Frazier in the long run, but it would be a huge back and forth slug fest with Frazier landing stunning lefts and Marciano landing damaging rights. I think what makes the biggest difference in the fight is Marciano's two fisted power. His right hand was obviously more dangerous than his left, but he could still knock you out with either hand.

As the fight would go on, both fighters would be battered, but Marciano only got stronger as the fight went on, whereas Frazier usually leveled off towards the championship rounds.

I have to beg to differ on that one Janitor Frazier face got horendous hemotomas (or whatever you call them) - just coz Marciano got one freakish million-to-one plit nose everyone goes on as though Rocky's was getting stopped on cuts by everyone?? Frazier was actually stopped by Ali due to his eyes being virtually swollen shut - even in the first Ali fight Frazier's face had swelled horrendously by the end - Marciano's face was pretty unmarked after most of his fights aside from the odd nick now and again

Marciano was also cut against Johnny Shkor and I think that the cut never realy healed properly. It was re-opened in subsequent fights.

for those of you who are calling it even in the 'heart' department, i think frazier exhibited far more heart throughout his career, than Rocky. Although marciano was a legit great fighter, he is not an ATG.

he came at a point where all the great fighters of that time were ageing badly, and with that said, he won the title in his 43rd fight, defending it only 6 times (2 of which he fought don cockell, and a man who he had already beaten years earlier, roland la starza.....the other challengers include ezzard charles, joe walcott, who were both very battle worn)

in comparison, frazier had the opportunity to exhibit far more in his own career.

I disagree on some of your Advantage breakdowns ...

Power was split ... Frazier had a much better left, Marciano the right.
Stamina was even giving Marciano every benefit of the doubt. Frazier was fighting much bigger men . The same with strength.

It's a very tough fight. While I like Frazier far better in many head to head match ups with other greats because of his speed and size advantage, Rocky would be a very difficult match up for Joe early ... Joe did nit excell against short fighters and Rocky would give him a dificult target early. In addition, Rocky was a huge puncher and was very capable of finishing what Bonavena started . I would also not favor Joe if he came out for round 1 against Rocky like he did in the first Quarry bout .. there is no doubt Rocky could possibly hurt him very badly early ... also no knock on Joe but he was not the smartest fighter out there .. he was a lot like Dempsey in that he saw red and wanted to go to war ... what is rarely mentioned is how smart Marciano was .. he could and did shift gears. He knew how to survive if hurt or tired ... he was a clever, cagey fighter ...

I am actually of the thought that the longer the fight went the better for Frazier, that his speed and size would take over ... however I would not bet it as it is a razor slim pick and an extremely dangerous fight for Frazier ...

Get rid of the screw face mother****er.

I said he's a great fighter but not an ATG. there's plenty of those so ranking him would be tough.

Frazier's left was obviously better, but it wasn't as big of a power gap between his left and Marciano's left as it was between his right and Marciano's right. This is why I gave the power advantage to Marciano.

Marciano nor Frazier were fast starters, but they would definitely be warmed up quite well by the 3rd or 4th round due to both of them being so aggressive, and the fire works would start early.

I give the strength edge to Marciano because he was constantly pushing Joe Louis back, who was not a weak man at all, and I don't believe I've ever seen him get pushed back when he wanted to go forward. Frazier has been pushed back when he was trying to push the other guy back, now granted this was against some of the strongest fighters to ever live (Foreman and Chuvalo are the two I had in mind).
