Who would you bet on to beat Ivan Calderon?

I think Segura definitely has the power to hurt Calderon, but he does need to polish his skills more. He has lapses where he becomes too inactive or has the habit of punching himself out. I forgot who he had that loss too, but he was getting outboxed pretty bad.

If he popped that jab out more and became more of a boxer/puncher instead of just a puncher he would become more deadly and more effective than he already is. Something like a mini version of a Thomas Hearns or Alexis Arguello. He learns to box and use those longer arms he can beat Calderon by points or wear him down. Calderon even at this stage is one of the best technical boxers out there.

Roman Gonzales is a great little ko artist and his toughness and pressure alone would give any fighter hell at the moment. He doesn't punch himself out like Segura and to be honest I like his chances better. The guy fights like a locomotive. I would love to see those 2 fight. Classic boxer vs. puncher fight and might be another Lopez vs. Alvarez.

 

He lost to Cesar Canchilla but then came back and bombed him out in 4 rounds in the rematch.

I remember when Roach said Calderon was giving DLH fits in sparring. Caldy was also sparring with Mosley.

 

Agree 100%, he's on his way out...he's what 35 now? Granted he's so skilled I'd give him a fair shot against anyone but he's certainly not showing himself to be quite what he once was.

 

In his prime (or with prime legs, at least) he probably could have beaten everybody, but at this point, Giovani Segura kayoes him mid-rounds.

 

Probably could've in his prime. He just keeps getting closer and closer to losing lately and his fights keep getting stopped early due to his profuse bleeding after headbutts...makes it even more possible.

 

Nobody not named Ricardo "Finito" Lopez. Ivan Calderon is the best super little man anybody has laid eyes on since Finito.
