Ali !! Just to see him clean out the division and smack the Klitschko brothers around the ring for 12 rounds each.

Ali, not even close. Sure there's more competition for a small guy like Duran, but we are talking Ali in his prime, from the late 60's. He was like nothing the world had seen before or since. Then take into account his hilarious antics and charisma, boxing would be saved for decades.

Agreed ! The HW division was the most popular, and mant people didn't even knew the fighters in the other divisions, and today is so weak and boring that casued boxing to lose popularity.

And another reason for boxing losing popularity is the MMA and UFC wich in my opinion are not soprts, just pure violence.

Ali wouldn't have the same impact today as he did then. There would be no civil rights movement, no Vietnam, no Black Muslims (they're probably still around, but much more tame after the departure of Elijah), no Liston/Frazier/Foreman...

He'd still be the loud-mouth who made predictions, and just dominated everyone in the ring... but without the external factors he'd never be the same.

I'd probably still go for Ali though, HW is the iconic division, and it needs an iconic fighter.

Easily Duran. Simply because nobody at HW would pose a threat to Ali. I don't even see anything remotely interesting about a fight between Ali and anyone(including the Klits and Haye) at HW today. As great as an entertainer Ali was, the HW division would still be boring to me with or without him.

With Duran, he might be the same as Ali and beat everyone. But atleast it still has alot of interest in it. Think about it, we'll basically be seeing Duran potentially face off against arguably HALF of the TOP 10 P4P fighters in the sport today. Duran vs Pacquiao and Marquez at 135? Duran vs Hatton at 140? Duran vs Margarito and Cotto at 147? Then Duran vs the former P4P king Mayweather at 135, 140 and 147? These are HUGE fights IMO.

Mayweather should have lost to Castillo the 1st time, and had to box very carefully to beat him in the rematch.

I think Duran has a great style to beat Mayweather; pressure, skill, power, accuracy and aggression.

Don't even think it will be close.

Spot on! Ali was that great, because outside the ring was a special figure too, and he had competition in the HW division (Fraizer,Foreman,Liston,Patterson,Ken Norton,Joe Bugner and Bonavena). Each of this fighters would clean up todays HW division.
