Rubbish. Besides, his actual achievements would barely get him in the top ten if at all, and he is consistantly rated there.

There is no head to head component in all-time ratings. Fighters are judged by what they accomplish in their own time. Joe Louis would have to start out as a cruiser today, too, and would lose to some ordinary heavies.

But there real reason is that all head to head is hypothetical.

I've never seen anyone rate him in the top 5, not once. If anyone rated him that high it's h2h

Actually over time I think Tyson has become increasingly UNDERRATED but I won’t hijack your thread with a side topic. For me right now I’m gonna say Oleksandr Usyk. It’s not that I don’t like him. He’s an excellent fighter . But as of late he’s become a deity in fantasy fights.

The latest champ is always hyped as the modernists think anything now is better than yesterday. But in Usyks case they may have a points excellent fighter. I didn’t buy the Fury or AJ hype. But Usyk has always been the best fighter for some time.

I don't rate anyone in the Top 5. That's how little this crop of fighters, so far, deserves it.

Not sure why. The debate is always who could beat who. But if thats what we re rating then why isn’t Johnson L Sullivan in the top 10. He was a national legend before internet tv even before even radio. He beat everyone. How bout Jack Johnson he should be number 1. He beat all the best black fighters and was the Negro Heavyweight champ and then won the world championship outright and beat the best white fighters badly including the former greatest of All-time in an epic match.
Joe Louis never fought black fighters as champ. After the color line came down after ww2 he lost to the first 2 black fighters he fought.
Marciano beat some good fighters after they were over the hill then retired just as some good young fighters were starting to develop.

A phrase an old aunt used... essentially, don't waste the effort of trying to convince an idealogue, someone so entrenched in their belief they can't be shaken by logic.

That is entirely up to you. All I am saying is that the head-to-head is entirely hypothetical, and if you want to make that kind of argument, then you really need to throw out guys like Louis and Liston along with Marciano.

    Wins over

    Ezzard Charles X2
    Jim Bivins
    Elmer Ray X2
    Joey Maxim X2
    Harold Johnson
    Joe Baksi
    Lee Q Murray
    Curtis Sheppard
    Lee Oma

And, of course, 70% thought he beat Louis.

Put a lot of guys to shame.

Jerry Quarry is probably the most overrated non champion in HW history. A lot of people say he would be a champion in an other era and I just dont believe that, maybe in the weaker eras or the 30s or 50s but hes not a champ in any period from his to the modern day. He gets overrated due to his style I feel, the counterpuncher can look like a world beater when everything is going right. But his small size, and propensity to getting cut up makes a title run a tough task.
