Margarito. He is just too strong and too relentless for Cotto to do anything here. Cotto fought his ass off and still looked like he got mugged.

Yeh i hear that. I had not idea Margo was so much taller and stronger than Cotto. The only Cotto could change is that he does not know how to hold and clinch effectively. If he used that tactic he could seriously get Margo frustrated. I know Cotto had to do that in order win. He did do ot anywhere near enought Margo got his punchs off end of story.

Well, my history indicates that usually when I pick a fighter to win I keep picking him to win the rematches even if he lost, for example I picked Morales over Pacquiao three times, and I also picked Marquez over Vazquez 3 times... For this fight I don't think I'm changing natures because like in my other picks I truly believe Cotto can beat Margo. Like you stated with a few adjustments I think Cotto could come up with a victory over Margarito, but I wouldn't really want to see him against him too soon.

There is nothing Cotto can do different (Forget about clinching, not gonna happen)
Same outcome, only this time in less rounds.
    Margarito by KO/TKO

Cotto just doesn't have the defensive skills to keep out of the way of Margarito's onslaught. Didn't anyone in Cotto's camp pick up on the fact that he gets rocked regularly by uppercuts, and Margarito throws the best uppercut in the division. Not to mention, Cotto has been susceptible to overhand rights as well. A Mayweather with his defense might be able to avoid Margarito for 12 round- might- but never Cotto. Margarito has his number.

Cotto would have to improve his defense like you said but will he be able to improve it enough? It would also help if he went to the body more (although Margo was protecting his body well by keeping his elbows tucked in).

Theres also the mental effect this fight will have on Cotto.

At the minute i would side with Margo. Will have to see Cottos next fight to see if his game has improved and see if there is any mental scars before i give a definitive answer.

Margarito, and for the same reason. Cotto just doesn't have the stamina or the whiskers to go 12 rounds with him.

Margarito going to the body early and landing a lot of them enabled him to hit Cotto's head later in the fight and that wore him out. I agree, we have to see Cotto's next fight before we make an accurate prediction on the rematch. If Cotto takes the rematch before a fight or two, it will be even uglier for Cotto

Cotto is a smart intelligent fighter. I see him watching the tape, seeing what he did wrong, seeing what he did right in the first half of the fight, working on his stamina and coming up with a better gameplan.

This is at least how I hope the situation would play out. Margarito is the obvious favorite but I'd love to see Cotto seek revenge. I think Cotto could make the right adjustments to win a decision. He would be my pick (although I'm not afraid to admit that that pick is more with my heart then my head).

It will be interesting to see what happens but the earliest this fight should take place is late 2009. For the sake of BOTH fighters as Margarito might have come out unmarked, he took some serious punches to his dome that can't be good for him.

Really though....we have to see how Cotto looks in his next outing. I hope he doesn't go the way of a Vargas or Lacey.

Ohh..and I'm a huge Cotto fan but seriously, Cotto by KO/TKO shouldn't even be an option!
