Who would you favor to be Hearns at 147-154 over the last 15 years?

Tommy Hearns is a God-damned myth. A bully my ass... more like a ****ing predator that hunts souls and crushes spirits.

I've got to agree with some previous posts that the fighter from the past 15 years with the best chance of beating Hearns at 147 is Shane Mosley, surely he deserved a place on the poll above ****ing Kermit Cintron?

Hearns didn't have the best beard, I would make Tito even money to knock him out and I think PW would give him everything he wanted as well.

I wouldn't favor anyone, but there are definitely fighters that are live underdogs.

Tito is one, although his tendency to start slow would hurt him, as would the long reach and greater mobility of Hearns.

The Mosley from/just after his first victory over Oscar could give Tommy a hard fight if he's really on his game, otherwise Hearns uses the reach for a mid to late KO or UD.

Whitaker is a god but I think he's overmatched, especially as Tommy took on and beat, (although it was close) another defensive genius in Wilfredo Benitez. Still, Whitaker would do his best.

Julian Jackson, from his days before fighting G-Man might have a chance to spark Hearns, although I'd expect Hearns to dance rings around him until the right took Jackson out.

Williams might try to win on volume but he leaves himself open too much, and Hearns would make him pay dearly for that. My guess is Hearns either makes Williams fall, (and someone in the crowd shouts "Timber!" when it happens) or better jab/fundamentals to outpoint Williams.

Basically, the only guys I'd really feel comfortable giving any edge over Hearns at 154 and down are Robinson, Leonard, Benitez is a 50/50 (gave Hearns a very tough fight, might have won if it had been a few years earlier) and really, that's about it. And even they would be in for a tough night.

Now, when you get to middleweight there are a lot more names, since Tommy was not a great middleweight. Very good, but not great.

    C'mon man....

This glass jaw talk is ridiculous when you consider his record at 147-154.

He lost by KO to who? Sugar Ray Leonard in the 14th and Marvin Hagler in one of the most brutal fights ever?

You guys have to be kidding me.

And the Hagler fight wasn't even at 154, so it doesn't matter for this thread.

Roy is just as talented as Leonard, except about 20lbs heavier. Thus, Hearns gets dominated. And im a Hearns fan, but come on. This is Roy Jones Jr we're talking about. Iran Barkley ring a bell?

Yeah at 160, 168, or some **** like that, Hearns wouldn;t stand much of a chance against Roy...

And I'm probably one of the biggest Hearns fans around. But let's be real. Hearns wasn't ****in with Roy at them higher weights. Never.

    Which furthers my point...

At 147-154 when did Hearns chin fail him? Losing to Sugar Ray Leonard in the 14th is not exactly my idea of a glass jaw...:-(

    Am I forgetting some fights???:huh

Hearns was knocked out by a welterweight. Jones went 12 with a natural HW. Their chins in their primes are two totally different levels. Jones lost his punch resistance when he dropped down from HW to LHW. Hearns faster than Jones? Are dreaming? Jones probably had the best speed/reflex combination in boxing history.

I agree with all of this.

Jones had a good chin until he came back down.

To say that either of these guys had a weak chin at their prime weight is ****in ******ed. Hearns lost to Leonard in the 14th. Jones held up like a champ until he came back down. We should put both of these bad chin myths to rest.

Hearns was an absolute beast at 147/154. Even Leonard, as good as he was, was being outboxed by Tommy for large portions of their fight.

Yeah, Barkley beat him twice, but Iran was a big, physical middleweight. People forget sometimes about Hearn's boxing ability because he carried that amazing power, but he was a damn fine boxer too.

No way. I like Shane a lot, but he cannot beat Tommy Hearns. Look what Vernon Forrest did to him, and Vernon is not Tommy Hearns. Just because Shane beat Antonio Margarito does not mean he can beat the great Thomas Hearns.
