Are there any fighters you'd favor to outbox a prime Thomas Hearns at welterweight?

It'd be a mighty tough task with Hearns's long arms, superb handspeed, awesome jab, and just all around great boxing ability.

    outbox?

tough...i'd say robinson should still get 60/40 odds

ted lewis may not be favoured but i'd give him a very solid chance

    otherwise, kid gavilan comes close

Hearns would be very hard to beat at welt. although the Hearns who fought Ray was a little inexperienced. If you put the Hearns with the experience he had when he fought Benitez or Duran at welt. Not many guys beat him including Leonard.

I don't think anyone beats him simply by boxing on the outside, if that's what you're asking.

There are several guys who could fight their way inside and get the better work done once there, possibly stopping him or grinding out a decision.

Honestly, it is very difficult to imagine a Prime Tommy outboxed...

agreed, agreed. and at 154, I'd say that no one ever could. at 147 though, deeper talent pool to choose from

Burley a good shout. He would probably have the closest of the great fighters at welter to Hearns in reach. Experienced enough at the weight with the speed and accuracy to perhaps live with him on the outside.

Not sure I'd back him or anyone though in that type of fight. I'd favour someone like Robinson to deal with Hearns fairly comfortably at the weight, but more from going to knock him out at mid range than trying to outbox him at distance

I dont think anyone outboxes him.

I also think its very hard for any ww to beat him over 12 rounds.
