He'd get the least amount of stick if he fought Dawson, that is prob the best match at 175 right now. I can see him fighting Jermain Taylor aswel and I think thats a good win for him. Froch is pointless because Joe will make it look easy, if you make it look easy your oponent is automatically written off as a bum or in Carls case - a Eurobum. Imo he could also out box Adamek for the cruiser title, but cant see that happening.
If he decides to fight again it has to be Dawson for me, though a Hopkins rematch would be passable. I think Froch has done enough to deserve a chance but the other two are in front of him, imo, and both possibly are more dangerous fights - particularly Dawson.
I have to agree that Chad is the best fight for him. I have seen Joe’s comments about fighting Dawson, and don’t agree. Dawson is a undefeated IBF/IBO LH champion, (as well as former WBC LH Champ). This fight could be sold on both sides of the pond when the publicity machine kicks in.
Well, never mind who we want him to fight, Calzaghe said DLH is past it so it will probably be him if anybody.
Pacquiao, if Oscar can jump 100 places and become the best p4p by beat pac then joe can move up from #2 if he beats him.
Chad Dawson for legacy and America Froch for British Public and grudge match out of the two...........I'd love to see him fight Froch........alot more personal interest in that one
Dawson is undefeated, in his prime, has made 5 WBC/IBF title defenses, beat Tarver, Johnson (like it or not, he did) and the current IBF Cruiser Champion Adamek, being the only guy to ever beat him. He is ranked no3 at Light Heavy only behind Hopkins and Calzaghe himself. He would be the first genuine Light Heavy Joe has faced. HBO have stated they would back the fight - Dawson states he is willing to go to Wales. He would be possibly the most established boxer in their prime Joe has ever met! Yet Joe says Dawson isn't worthy of a fight with him... Joe on Froch (according to the front page), ouch ”Yeah, I Googled him," he said. "I've seen him but the guy doesn't mean anything. The guy don't mean ****. The guy he fought the other day Jean Pascal, he didn't look any good. And the Americans won't pay one penny for him; they're not interested in him. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is." I like Froch and wouldn't deny him his chance, but I would be disapointed if Calzaghe chose to fight him over Dawson.
1. Dawson: The heir to the throne at LHW. Can Calzaghe turn back one more young pretender and seal his incredible legacy? 2. Froch: Purely for the British fight fans, would be great public interest in this one. 3. Jermain Taylor - Taylor would be alright, but he's sufferred two defeats to Kelly Pavlik...in very recent memory. That would tarnish any victory over him...it wouldn't mean nearly as much as it once would have...though I do believe it would still add a bit to JC's legacy, though not nearly as much as Dawson would.
From the front page on Dawson; Another interesting boxing match would be Calzaghe vs Chad Dawson. Dawson is the best light heavyweight in the world not named Joe Calzaghe. Dawson is a young hungry fighter. He as well has good speed and athleticism. Chad Dawson wants to fight Calzaghe and he would even go to Wales for the match. However, Calzaghe doesn't seem very interested in fighting Dawson. Calzaghe dismissed him by saying "Why? Who is Chad Dawson? The guy has won the world title and he can't attract flies, he can't fill up his own neighborhood. Why fight him? He's a good fighter but what does that mean?"
True, Calzaghe can retire right now safe in the knowledge that he is one of the finest British fighters of all time and the best SMW of all time. I was really bothered I must say...I wanted to see him in action one last time before retirment at the Millenium Stadium but I must say the fight that really has my undivided interest right now is Vit Klit vs Haye....at it's a full 7 months away! A Hatton-Pac fight also appeals, it must be said. Once thought that was a freakshow but damn is Pac a phenom.
