I think its an uphill battle for Casita to secure any big fights now, but thinking positive, there are probably a few opponents that could generate a bit of interest and money for the old fella.

Erik Morales is one name that I've heard mentioned, somewhere around WW. Then...

The loser of JMM-Diaz rematch would be a distinct possibility for the end of the year. (If JMM loses, he's on the slide, so if Casa can show he has something left, that rematch might make sense. Diaz and Casa were due to fight last year, but Casa pulled out due to injury I believe).

Zab Judah is another possible opponent, co-headlined the same card last time out. Both guys struggling for relevancy. Both recognized names, with the winner maybe earning another shot at the big time.

Casamayor has been my favorite boxer for many yrs,i have lot of respect for him since has being a world champ and for more than 12 yrs a big name in professional boxing.Never ducked anybody and took 3 times on legendary Corrales.
But we all know he is not the same, and he should retire before getting hurt or exposing himself against lesser fighters. The way he lost to JMM tells u he is not able to go against first class boxers, there is no way in hell JMM would have KO casa 5 yrs ago,Corrales, freitas, castillo, campbell coudnt do it and they punch way harder than Marquez...nothing to take away from marquez.
maybe a good bye fight against Morales who is coming back for retirement could make sense, even if morales is younger but definitly not in his prime. But just that, a good bye fight, a good payday and go to the gym to help all those cubans that are coming everyday willing to acomplish what el cepillo has already done.

True. But remember, Casa gave JMM a very tough fight for the most part. If JMM is certainly on the slide, which he may well be now, I don't have an ethical problem with a potential rematch. Also, I think Casa's legs may have gone, he may be old, but he still has a few tricks and a lot of veterns guile and experience - I certainly wouldn't be worried about his health against guys like Diaz or Morales. I just want to see him in action against a significant opponent, a couple more times before he calls it a day.

His chin was one of the best i've ever seen, he took some monster shots from Corrales and never went down, with castillo he went to war the last 3 rds after dominating the fight and never got hurt.
but remember how he struggled against katsidis-who is a class B,if he won that fight is because he got a good par de cojones.
Guzman is way younger and in better shape,he will lose to Guzamn,he has a better chance against Morales whose style of open war fits better casamayor's couterpuncher style.

I'd like to see him give Santa Cruz a chance to right that wrong.

He looked really bad against Davis. He needs at leas two or three more tuneups before he fights someone decently relevant

2 or 3 more tune-up fights means 1 to 1.5 more years before a fight with someone with a decent name. He will be as shot as hell by then, age and wear and tear and all.

He was 37 years old. Most fighters, even good ones, at that age get knocked out by worse fighters than Katsidis.

The judges compensated for the fights he should have won: Corrales II (robbery), Castillo & Freitas (arguable).

A loss to Santa Cruz when Casamayor was 36 years old doesn't change his resume one bit but those wins would have.

Not very interested in Casamayor anymore, I think he's shot and I dont think he's got a future in any division as it stands right now.

If anything, let it be a big payday, so he can ride off in the sunset.

Casa was knocked down in the first fight with Corrales. Which he went on to win, quite superbly.

You win some robberies, you lose some.

Personally, I think Casa fully deserved a 'w' over Castillo, and probably against Freitas as well. Neither decision went in his favour.
