I would like to see him fight someone like Franklin. I read that he will not sign with the UFC because Dana tries to restrict othere activity. That is the same reason Fedor wouldn't sign because he likes to compete in Nat'l Sambo compettion.
I honestly just want to see Silva-Le for the novelty of watching Silva win by knockout. But other than Silva, I don't know, Lutter? Yushin Okami would be a great match, actually.
For starters, the Shamrock/Le rematch should be phenomenal! Once Frank is back on the shelf, I would like to see Cung match up with a plethora of fighters: Renzo Gracie GSP Rich Franklin Dan Henderson Matt Hughes BJ Penn
I'd pick Le to defeat anyone who regularly fights below 185 (St. Pierre, Hughes, Penn). He probably takes Rich Franklin, too. I'd say of those guys, Dan Henderson and Renzo Gracie would have the best chance of winning. But Le looked damn good against Shamrock. You've got to wonder if it was really that he is that good, or because of Shamrock's horrible gameplan, standing and stalking. I'd like to see the Shamrock-Le rematch, despite some people not wanting that again. I just think Shamrock could do better, with a better gameplan. :bbb
Agreed. Cung Le is the Strikeforce Champ and Lawler is the Elite XC Champ and both companies work together so I say lets unify the belts in a explosive fight.
WTF? We haven't seen him on the ground yet and you're picking him over all those guys? Lets see how he looks when Shammy gets him to the ground in the rematch. Before we see him show that he can hang with those type of guys on the mat or he shows some serious takedown defense against someone serious about getting him there I won't pick him over anyone of that caliber.
I do not know if I would pick him over those guys but I do believe that is takedown defence should be excellent. It is what he will be able to do if he does get on the ground is the question. ?:think
That is the big unknown with Cung Le in the minds of many MMA fans. Cung has been studying BJJ for several years now and does understand ground defense. Of course, there's no telling how he would handle a strong ground and pound game from a guy like Dan Henderson - but time will have to tell the tale on that one. From what I saw of Le's guard work in the short training clips shown by Strikeforce, he seems to be doing everything right. He said his gameplan on the ground is to defend and look for opportunities to get back to his feet. He wants to keep the fights standing as much as possible so he can utilize his crazy San Shou skills. That foot sweep he caught Frank with in Round 3 was a thing of beauty.
I don't know if he could beat GSP or not - but I know that I would love to see a Cung Le vs GSP fight. Le's San Shou skills allow him to match up with anyone in MMA - in a striking game. Frank Shamrock is no scrub kickboxer. He has gone toe-to-toe with some tough as nails fighters over the years and knocked them out. Le would fare better on his feet than Hughes did against GSP. He may not do as well as Serra did in his first fight with GSP - but he'll certainly fare better than the second Serra fight! :!:
Yes, GSP should be superior on the ground - especially in MMA. GSP is an amazing fighter. It would be a great match if it ever happened.
Maybe... Even at a lighter weight I think GSP would take him down easily and brutalize him on the ground. GSP has a very good standup game but he certainly has no qualms using his wrestling for an entire fight. I don't think he would stand with Cung, why even try when he can wrestle him and beat on him/submit him. Cung Le isn't a very big 185 lb fighter, and I think he would need to be even bigger and stronger than he is to keep it standing against GSP, or he would need to have shown more groundfighting than he has for me to think he would stand a chance. I'd rather see him fight Silva. He'd probably have a better chance because at least Silva has no problem keeping it on the feet. Maybe if Cung got really lucky he could beat Silva in an MMA style kickboxing match, but stylistically, GSP is even worse for him I think. Oh, also, if I had to pick I'd have him fight Franklin next.
I think in a wrestling match Cung Le and GSP would be very close Cung was a national high school champion in Greco Roman a conference champion in Juco. So he has the background. I also think that Greco Roman is the best for MMA, because of the balance and remaining in control. Shooting on your opponent is dangerous in my opinion especially heavyweight. One of the weaknesses of Jujitsu, they are not explosive on the takedown. I donot know who Cung Le would beat. I like to watch him fight. what I like best about him is his ability to fight backing up his defensive foot work and still be able to counter with a strike or a punch is awesome. It would be very difficult for anyone to beat him.
I wish I had something to add to this other than I like to watch Cung Le fight as well. His footwork, combinations, and throws are masterful. It's like Ric Flair used to say, "whether you like it or you don't. . . it's the best thing going today!"
