While this is certainly true, is loss to Overeem, in addition to being bizarre and difficult to watch, was also very recent. He's 1 and 1 with Overeem, so it's not like there isn't reason for a rematch, but I think their fight was entirely to recent to justify it.

There has been some time between his loss to JDS and the potential rematch, but the loss was so brutal and so final it's again, difficult to justify. Although, they could play it like the Serra GSP thing, and have Werdum go on and on about how he didn't take it seriously, etc.

Yeah, Carwin has some work to do before I'll pick him against the top of the division. Mir is already the most interesting challenger for either Overeem or JDS, depending on the Velasquez/Bigfoot result I'd either throw Bigfoot straight in or have Velasquez/Werdum in a title eliminator.

Keeping Mir relevant is a good thing, but he just picked up a big, high profile win over JDSs coach and mentor, so putting him straight in is probably a good idea. Using Mir as a first defence for Overeem is also a good idea because it's a hugely winnable fight for Overeem and Mir is probably one of the best known UFC heavyweights due to his fights with Lesnar, so it's great marketing for both Overeem and JDS.

Keeping the top of the heavyweights alive is what they more or less need to do, the only obvious defence they have for JDS/Overeem is pretty much Mir at this point (especially if JDS wins, as he's already taken out most of the top of the division). I just think if Werdum gets the right end of a boring decision and Overeem takes out JDS, Werdum v Overeem III, so soon after their last "fight" is going to be a ****ing hard sell.

Waiting to see how JDS/Overeem ends up, and then giving either guy a defence against Mir while Werdum keeps busy with a go against the Bigfoot/Velasquez winner or even Carwin makes the most sense to me.

He needs to actually pull guard. Not flop to the mat and hope his man reciprocates.

Ideally, I'd like to see the following HW fights:

    JDS v Overeem
    Barnett v Cormier
    Mir v Werdum
    Cain v Bigfoot
    Carwin v Kongo/Hunt winner

Match the winner of Barnett/Cormier against the winner of Werdum/Mir for the next title shot and match the winners of the other 2 fights to establish the next contender.
