Who would you like Victor Ortiz to fight June 27?

This is my boy. I'd like to see him step it up. I think he is ready. Bring on the big boys. On June 27 id like to see him against somebody durable.

 

Ortiz would knock Nate out. Nate is old and moving up in weight.

 

Chop Chop is completely shot. I don't think even Henry's mom knows where Bruseles is. Last I checked, he'd been fighting tomato cans in Puerto Rico for the last few years.

 

I think it may be a smidge too early for a Nate Campbell type. Campbell is extremely good at dissecting the weaknesses of younger fighters and exploiting them like a sniper. While he's consistent (and beatable), Victor Ortiz is still probably a few fights away from Nate Campbell. Not to mention I figure Nate has bigger fish to fry than fighting an up and coming fighter like Ortiz. Specifically eyeing the situation ongoing with Juan Urango.

So here are two decent suggestions: Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah.

Malignaggi? He's a feather fisted somewhat shot fighter who represents little risk to Victor Ortiz. Not only that but Malignaggi is an HBO fighter. He's a known name and has the ability to make himself the most hated person in the room. Malignagi poses little threat to Ortiz but at this point that's fine. The key is still exposure with Ortiz. A win over the somewhat still relevant Malignaggi would be a nice step towards a title shot.

Zab Judah is the ultimate opponent for a young prospect. A good name and a relevant opponent, it's a perfect match for Ortiz. Especially since I figure Ortiz would stop Judah before Cotto or Clottey did.

 

Zab Judah seems like a mouth watering fight. I disagree though, I think, actually, Zab would be much more competition than Nate would be against Ortiz.

 

I disagree...Given that Zab only fights for damn near 3-4 rounds (5 at the most) I see Zab putting up a good fight for the first couple of rounds than he'll start to let the fight get away...Unlike Judah, Nate is going to fight you for the full 12 rounds.

Even Cotto didn't fight Zab until he had fights like Torres and Malinaggi behind him. That would be a very big step for Ortiz, plus Zab's power is a bigger factor at 140.

 

What about Randall Bailey? Juan Lazcano? I like the idea of fighting Zab Judah. Nothing wrong with Ortiz not taking on a guy the quality of Judah at this point in time, though. It's tough sometimes to turn back time if you take on the wrong guy at this point in your career. And although Ortiz has dominated everything he's been in the ring with, he's still only 22 and all it takes is one fight to turn things in the wrong direction quickly. Ask Rey Bautista.

 

Here's another interesting one. What about Breidis Prescott? With Prescott's frame, he could easily fight at Junior Welterweight. And if Khan and Ortiz both win, Khan wins the title and Ortiz beats the guy that beat Khan. Sets up a storyline.
