I find picking Mayweather over the likes of Chavez and Duran purely due to ring generalship problematic. He was a much better mover in his youth, but even then, it was not uncommon to see him cornered and dropping rounds while in the process of setting up traps against the ropes. If either man corners him, which I think is highly likely, they are the more potent and skilled practitioners of fighting at that range.

I don't really count Duran as a 130 lber..he made his mark at 135...Mayweather has consistantly grown on me through the years with his dedication and consistency. At the top at 130 for me are the names of Mayweather, Chavez and Arguello. If forced to make a pick, I would go with Mayweather...Chavez and Arguello are bonafide ATG fighters, but I feel the speed and extraordinary defensive ability of Mayweather gives him a very narrow edge.

The way you beat PBF is with a superior athlete with equal or longer arms a good jab and the ability to beat him to the punch and that can counter. That's the type of guy who could potentially outbox PBF and frustrate him because he can get off before PBF could and keep him honest with a long jab The closest thing to that we've seen was Zab who was a bad stylistic match up for him, who had the ability to beat PBF to the punch and was a natural counter-puncher. He just lacked the ring IQ and mental toughness to pull it off. I rank PBF's win over Zab high because he overcame a styles disadvantage and still won. I think a prime Cory Spinks would have given PBF fits stylistically. A slow handed guy with short arms with average defense just isn't going to get it done because PBF will own him in the middle of the ring with speed and defense and control the distance with his movement and length from the outside. This is especially true at 130 where PBF enjoyed a size advantage over most and had real power and ATG movement. PBF was a stylistic terror at 130 and IMO the GOAT at that weight.

Good I;m glad you realize that because that's exactly what he would be doing getting beat to the punch all night and getting outboxed.:good While he's waiting PBF is busy putting rounds in the bank.

No one, but if I have to pick someone it would be Alexis Argüello.

I don't like his chances...too slow. I feel like De La Hoya had most of the assets Arguello had, but with enough speed to stay in the fight.

That's your opinion & I respect it.Use to think the same but Chavez defense is very underrated & he was also a great counter puncher that threw combinations as well.Chavez is a whole other animal & would give floyd huge problems.Castillo gave floyd many problems i'm sure Chavez would give him more it's just a matter of common sense.Like I said floyd is great & would hold his ground but so would JCC.I know we're talking 130lb but Salvador Sanchez is another guy who would give floyd a huge run for his money & then some. But that's another story in itself lets stick to the guy who idolized Sanchez & 2nd greatest Mexican ever Chavez.I think his relentless pressure would be too much there's not a guy in floyds resume that comes close to him.2 great fighters but you have to look at it from both sides.

No dobt Chavez was a great fight, but he was not on the level of FMJ. You say I'm underrating Chavez, which I'm not. I think you are underrating FMJ, who was a complete fighter at 130. Floyd made very good fighters look ordinary. Can't say the same about JCC.

Chavez would have given Floyd a very good fight and cause some stylistic problems, but I believe Floyd would be able to make the necessary adjustments to beat him.

    And Chavez' career is blemish-free?

Neither are perfect fighters. Floyd's offense to defense skillset is more adept at dealing with Chavez' style than vice versa. Just the way it is.

If Chavez was a bit bigger, even Castillo's size, he'd fare a LOT better.

I don't get it. People think Floyd is going to outmaneuver Chavez in the center of the ring when he was cornered by Jesus Chavez and Castillo? And then once Chavez inevitably corners him, that younger version of Mayweather would have out-fought him on the inside?

I wasn't impressed by Jesus and Floyd's hand problems obviously acted up in that fight. Chavez couldn't even keep it close against Whitaker. That really makes it tough for me believe that he'll beat Floyd.

Bull****. I'll give the far tougher and skilled operator than the bigger guy.
