I think Chavez would eventually overcome the stylistic hurdle presented by Mayweather; while the reverse is less likely to happen. To me, it seems Floyd just isn't the inside-fighter Whitaker can be. He's been proven to be more prone in fights featuring very basic pressure, to a point where even a low-level operator of the type in Hatton was able to extend him. He's terrific enough to beat the likes of Cotto, Castillo, and Chavez the lesser at their own game, but Senior brings a sophistication not seen in these guys.

I also don't distinguish between Floyd's super featherweight and lightweight campaigns in this case. He took on bigger foes, which is certainly very impressive. But the man himself did not become any larger. So, I think pitting him against Duran and Marcel is fair, since he was around their general size (Marcel being an unusually sized "featherweight").

One thing Chavez has which just about every single other fighter that he has fought lacks, is the ability to get hit clean and flush and still keep his concentration to come back with something sharp and on point in the same motion.

I just don't think a guy who throws one or two punches at a time, which Floyd did even back in the 130 days, is going to be able to easily offset a guy with that asset and will power.

The other thing is, and this contrasts with Pernell Whitaker, Floyd has never been great at shelling up to the body, which is where Chavez's best punches are aimed. Add to that that he doesn't have the inside game, especially at 130 (he did become a better inside fighter as he matured imo) to compete with Chavez should it become an inside affair.

Now of course Floyd's defense is too good to allow himself to really get broken down but it will be a big point scorer for Chavez.

Anyone thinking Floyd takes this easy is deluded beyond belief. If nothing else, just remember that Floyd hasn't even fought anyone a level below what Chavez was in his prime, and he has had his struggles despite that.

You're out of your mind inf you think Chavez is going to adjust and outbox PBF because that's what you're saying. I find it hilarious. Chavez isn't a better boxer than PBF period end of discussion. He can't outbox and out think PBF he would get owned in the middle of the ring by a longer faster guy with superior handspeed reflexes and defense. You're criminally underrating PBF's boxing ability. His boxing performance against Chico was arguably the best exhibition of boxing of this era. Chavez couldn't deal with Whitaker a defensive wizard and boxing master and looked lost and was given a boxing lesson. You're crazy if you think he's going to adjust and deal with PBF who was far more complete and had more ways to win the fight than Chavez does who can only bring pressure. If PBF stays on his bike then how does he win? Against a guy with longer arms quicker feet great footwork with fast hands and a high ring IQ. People discredit PBF because they don't like him as a person but as boxer he's brilliant and more complete than Chavez.

PBF is light years more skilled than Taylor. Not only that he was bigger had longer arms better footwork better reflexes better counter-puncher but more importantly he had a higher ring IQ and better defense. I would argue also that he had better stamina. Taylor fought a dumb fight, Philly fighter mentality, and didn't have the tools nor the durability to fight a war like that with Chavez. Even so Taylor who's basically limited only has a hand speed advantage over PBF and maybe work rate basically beat Chavez but was robbed by an crooked ref. PBF wouldn't fight Chavez like Taylor he would outbox him not stand in front and try and outwork him like Taylor did. He would control the distance in the middle of the ring and fight off his back foot. I want to know how in the hell does a slow handed short armed guy in Chavez get in on PBF without getting tagged. PBF would pull counter and lead right hand him all night long, turn and be gone. Too much speed too much reflexes too much defense too much lateral movement just too good especially at 130.
