People I'd outright favor to beat Sonny Liston?

    - Muhammad Ali ( obviously )
    - Lennox Lewis
    - Larry Holmes
    - Mike Tyson
    - Evander Holyfield
    - Vitali Klitscko
    - George Foreman

Other Possible candidates, but not necessarily favored

    - Wladimir Klitschko
    - Joe Louis
    - Jimmy Young

I think he has a clear stylistical disadvantage against giants like Lewis and the Klitschkos. A 6'1'' fighter who isn't particularly quick and likes to control fights with a jab is going to have a nightmare at distance with guys like that.

Ali would obviously be a favourite and so would a younger Holmes of Shavers I vintage that could hop on the bycycle virtually the whole fight and box.

That's about it. The likes of Tyson, Holyfield etc. are all 50-50 in my book.

Can't believe I agree with my post from 5 years ago.

Quite often my mind changes depending upon what fights I've been watching more of.

But yes, Ali and Louis are the only two j favour over Liston.

I wouldn't bet money on anyone to beat prime Liston.

Ali- Maybe if he could stay away from him for 15 rounds and out point him. I wouldn't bet on it, though.

Never was terribly sold on Liston to be honest. In today's era, a technically sound but smallish and slow-of-hand fighter.

He has problems-big problems-with Ray Mercer and Tim Witherspoon. Probably guys like Pinklon Thomas too.
