    The big difference is, some people will still consider that a duck.

    Like Cotto not fighting Golovkin for instance. He could make more money elsewhere, doesn't mean a fight wasn't justified.

    This is prize fighting, but as fans we don't care who gets paid what, we just want to see the best fight the best.

    The thing is we all know Burley was easily the best welterweight of that time. The only reason Burley wasn't number 1 though was because the Zivic win was 2lbs over the limit, so it didn't count towards rankings. It was 2lbs over the limit because Zivic and his manager knew the first fight was a gift and they were attempting to make themselves look more legitamite but at the same time making sure it didn't count if Burley win. Shameful behaviour.

    The public have always paid to watch the best against the best. The only reason Armstrong and Zivic didn't face Burley is because they walked like a duck, talked like a duck and were in fact ducks. Both were frauds as WW supposed champions

    I doubt the fight being an over the weight bout
    by 2 lbs would mean the result would not count r.e the ratings.
    Armstrong did defend against Garcia no1 and Roderick no4 in the end of year ratings. I'm not saying the nub of your post isnt true though.
    I expect we will be hearing more from Klompy on this.

    It didn't count towards the rankings because if it did Burley is number 1, no question. There's a reason it was over limit. Same with Angott and Robinson at lightweight

    To ignore white priveledge and the discrimination against blacks in 1930s America is to be willfully ignorant and to have faith in a systematically racist society

    If Burley was white he gets a title shot. Only elite black fighters in the decades of this era were denied title shots. No elite white boxers were denied title shots. Because a black boxer got a title shot doesn't mean there was anywhere near equality. There wasn't.

    A better thread would be 'What do we know about Cocoa Kid'? We have stories but we don't have any footage of him to my knowledge.

    There's already been threads like that.

    Without footage you can use contemporary reports and write ups to paint a picture.

    If you're that bothered about Burley not getting a shot, start a thread on it.

    In 1940 Cocoa Kid was the top ranked challenger up until Leto sparked him. This is a thread about him.

    Burley only has one place in this thread, as a pick against Cocoa Kid
