Barney and Davey were stablemates. Joe Jacobs, manager of Max Schmeling in 1934 offered Pian & Winch $7500 for Day's contract, saying, "you can't do Davey any good because, Ross is the Champion." Day was Barney's policeman, you had to beat Davey to get a crack at Ross.
Maybe I’m a little muddled up but didn’t he function the same way for Robinson? Or did Robinson have another “policeman” I forget.
No he wasn't. SRR was 19 when he started cleaning up the lightweights 1940-41 I'll say one thing, Robinson was going to fight Day next after he beat Angott. scheduled around Sept/Nov. 1941. He canceled his fight with Davey, having Bob Montgomery substituting on that date with Davey.
