Who would you rank higher : McCallum or Terry Norris ??

McCallum...no disrespect to Norris, but he, I always thought...was a bit of a fromtrunner with an unreliable chin..whereas McCallum was a tested, skilled and underrated old pro with better underlying fundamentals.

 

mccallum.only by being avoided are there question marks about him.he was top-notch

 

McCallum by quite a margin. Much smoother, more durable, better longevity, better defense, just more well-rounded.

 

Not that he doesn't deserve at least a modicum of credit for some of those, but one can only be tested so far by the brittle, aged Blocker (who had zero power), an overweight, no-power, essentially used up Taylor, a booze-addled Mugabi, and a completely used-up Curry.

Nitpicking points like these can be tiresome, but in Norris' case the gripe about him picking on old or smaller opponents carries some weight.

 

I would rank McCallum MUCH higher because he was a superior fighter in pretty much every way, built a superior resume, and had a superior career. I don't even see this as remotely close at all, for me the Bodysnatcher is borderline top 70 ATG, whereas Norris is maybe top 120ish.

 

Oh Norris could fight, I'm certainly not trying to say that.......a lot of whom he fought isn't necessarily his fault, either. The 154-pounders weren't exactly stacked at that time. The Castro win was a very good one, and Carl Daniels was a nice win too.

I just don't think he'd have been nearly the figure he had been then if he came along, say, in the mid 80's, when you had McCallum, Hearns, Jackson, etc. at their respective heights. It was a real good division then.

 

Was McCallum-Hearns ever discussed? That one would have been interesting. Anyone give Mac a good chance here?

I think it depends on Hearns. If he boxes and moves, I think McCallum has a long, frustrating night. If Hearns tries to catch him cold and bomb him out, McCallum's chances go up exponentially.

 

I would. Hearns could outpoint the Bodysnatcher,but only if he fights in his 'Motor City Cobra' style. If he tries to be the Hitman,he'd get stopped,as McCallum was too durable to be stopped. Even against a hard hitter such as Hearns.

 

McCallum certainly has the better legacy despite Norris's been underrated imo and I'd probably lean to him H2H too but thats not a given. Its a pity Norris couldnt get any of the big names like Whitaker or Trinidad. He would have beat the lot of them and gone down as a 154lb legend.
