Who would you rate as your top 10 heavyweights if you had no film?

Assume that there is no film of ANY heavyweight champion from Sullivan to Fury. It's all occasional photos, Boxrec records, and written reports.

Their opponents weren't filmed either. Nor were any Ring ranked guys -- or Ring ranked guys' opponents -- across the entire history of boxing.

Without any way to judge fighters based on how they look on film, what does your top 10 heavyweights of all time look like?

Which champions do better? Which ones do worse?

I think that HW is the most malleable of all the weight divisions anyway. I think the presence of the largest punchers in the world and rules about punch resistance just makes it more the clay for what a person wants rather than what is in some way true. That is just a generalisation though.

What i'm saying is that it's easier for very elite fighters to knocked out (Lewis-Rahman), or sent to ***** street (Schmeling-Louis) by less elite fighters at HW and that makes things more confounding. not that these things do not happen at other weights but they are more likely to occur among the heavies.

The heavies are more elemental, too, and seem to appeal to us when we are children (baddest man on the planet etc.) which sticks with us.

What I'm saying is, I don't think it will make that much difference

Personally, I think Frazier would sink a bit. I think of him as perhaps the only HW that is seminal at his weight - that is, Robinson is better than Ali on film, but there is no better swarmer than prime-Frazier on film. That probably affects my thinking about him. That's probably the kind of answer you are after.

Top 2 stay the same and interchangeable, due to their longevity at the top, resumes and the ex champs on them. I think Tyson climbs up a bit due to his defences in his first reign (8 current, past and future champs in just over 2yrs)
