Either way it's a great move by Top Rank..
Williams don't pose much of a puncher's threat (On Paper) against Kelly..

And A Hopkins fight will take place outside of the Middleweight division..
a defeat at the hands of Bernard would just be chalked up to the weight difference.
(+ Pavlik will still be the Middleweight Champion in defeat)

i feel whoever he fights between these 2 and win against them there will always be excuses and reasonable excuses imo.

hopkins = old, past his prime

williams = fought as a welterweight, too much big of a step up in weight and fighting the best MW out there without even testing the waters

But at least hopkins campaigns at a higher weight, he will make this a chess match and it would be an opportunity to see how pavlik deals with someone like hopkins plus hopkins would have a more better chance of winning

Hopkins of course. It's a fight vs. P4P-ers... only problem is if Pavlik loses, we might miss the Calzaghe superfight... but hey, there's the risk and excitement factor. Pavlik better prove that he's THAT good or he's gonna get his ass kicked. Really good test.

This fight should make the Pavlik vs Abraham people happy. Pavlik was considering doing 2 more non-PPV fights instead of a PPV fight this year. If he had done so then the Abraham fight wouldn't have happened until late February-March. But now they could concievably meet in January.

I too believe that Abraham-Pavlik would be the best fight, but that's water under the bridge. It can't happen until Abraham beats the mandatory Raul Marquez into the canvas. So early next year it is. If it comes to 2009 and these two aren't planning to fight each other then by all means complain. But until then Pavlik is doing the best he can with a slate of possible opponents who can't fight him, won't fight him, want too much money, aren't big enough names, or aren't credible competitive opponents.

Why would i want Pavlik to fight Hopkins??? 1st i think Pavlik should stay at MW for now, 2nd I am tired of getting excited to see Hopkins fight and end up dissapointed with his dirty antics and ruining fights style. I would rather Williams not to fight Pavlik because i dont think he can beat him, but if it were to happen i woud gladly watch it.

If Winky truly turned down a 1.3 Mil offer then he's for all intents and purposes announced his retirement.

i would rather see him face calzaghe, because when he loses to hopkins it will take any edge off a match with calzaghe.i would rather calz to expose him to hopkins as he would do it with a bit more style.

1.3 mil? I heard it wa less than 1 mil. Which is really a slap in the face to Winky.

Yes, well if wishes were horses perhaps we could tie Calzaghe to one and have it drag him into a boxing ring with Pavlik in it. But really Calzaghe won't get another shot at making a fight with Pavlik until the second half of next year. Pavlik will likely face Abraham next and then I'm sure he's got to do a mandatory.

thank you .. i dont understand why everyone else doesnt feel this way..

this fight is succcccchhh a waste of time...i would LOVE TO MEET some of yall in person.. yall make no sense honestly..

think this threw for a second

bernard hopkins is kncoking on the door of 50 years old!!!
50 years old meaning he existed before the internet did....

this man was a great fighter in his time and we cant take that away from him but IN HIS TIME.. i didnt even see the calzaghe fight but one of the main topics of the match was how old and washed up bhop looked..

and from the day of the calzaghe fight this guy isnt getting any younger... the fight is going to be super boring and low in action... bhop is just going to pot shot all around and clinch... it is absolutely beyond me why anyone would want to see that...

ITS AN GOD AWFUL FIGHT!! IM ASHAMED OF YOU AS BOXING FANS!!!

you guys are the same people that complain day in and day out that boxing needs more excitement, why doesnt anyone pay attention to boxing any more, where are the super fights?

its because of bull**** like this... nobody wants to see an senior citizen get waxed by kelly pavlik ... i really hope kelly pavlik beats ko's him devestatingly in 3 to prove a point to you people and make this fight some what worth it... instead of a 12 round snore fest

now i know paul williams isnt a legit middle weight... BUT HE IS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING FIGHTERS IN BOXING RIGHT NOW!!! if he is willing to step inside the ring with kelly MORE POWER TOO HIM... he would have bought excitement, intenstity, and that good old slug fest yall ***** about so goddamn much....

finally we have the opprotunity to see something so exciting and everyone bitches about it... kelly is cherry picking paul wiliams is too small blah blah blah...

    DONT BE ****ING STUPID!

the handlers of paul williams have a potential star on their hands, why would they toss them at pavlik if the outcome of the fight is paul williams by debolishment (my own word) .. they obviously must have felt that they paul williams could have challenged pavlik to some degree and they gave him a chance to shake the boxing world...

on the other had from what ive been reading kelly pavlik didnt have many options anyway
alot of MW's are busy and winky wanted to much money..

so for god sakes is the paul williams fight that big of a problem..

im sorry i had to go on a steven A smith rant on you guys but im extremely upset about this bhop fight..

its a horrible waste of time and i hope it blows up in everyones face... kelly pavlik is one of the 5 or 6 reasons (fighter wise) i love boxing.. so when he take **** ass matches like this it just prolongs the distance between now and when i get to see a good fight.. because everytime kelly steps inside the ring its a barn burner...

this bhop **** is going to ****ing suck and every single one of you know it..
for once stop being so critical and stop thinking in black and white..

no matter what anyone says the most exciting fight for pavlik is paul williams...
hes going to beat bhop because be hops to old
hes going to beat abrham because abraham punches are too wide and defense is ok but not inpenetrable
hes going to beat paul williams becasuse hes too small but atleast in this fight we get the chance to see pavlik box to a level he never has before due to pw's speed & output... of corse hes hit able but who cares..

its hilarious....in the midst of floyds retirement... we have someone super talented that fights NOTHING LIKE FLOYD against another figher who fights NOTHING LIKE FLOYD ... ALL OFFENSE.. and you chaztise the idea... and now when someone steps in the ring that fights exactly like floyd.. its ok..

sounds a bit hypocrital to me... ill stop though..

hope yall enjoy the hype to watch ****ing grandpa hopkins hug kelly pavlik to a 12 round ud loss

    :hi:

This is going to be a tough fight for Kelly Pavlik and this fight shouldn't have been made. Its not like Kelly can't knock out Hopkins but this guy is very hard to hit ... he's very dirty ... and he will force you to fight a fight that you're not accustom to.

If Kels gets the KO ... that would be the end of Hopkins' career.

Williams wouldve been better atleast it wouldve been some action and some drama ...
