We have the thread on who we think is going to win between Whyte and Povetkin, but who do we WANT to win and go on to be the mandatory?

I would narrowly rather see Whyte, because he has earned the shot a long time ago, and it is simple fairness. Also, Povetkin feels to me like he belongs to a different era. Fury already beat Wlad, so why fight the leftovers?

The counter argument that I can think of is that Povetkin, though he is by no means an ATG or even a legitimate title holder, still is more historical. He beat a couple of legit champs in Byrd and Chagaev, and you can throw in Rahman, even though he was shotter than shot, and Huck, even though he is a cruiser. Of course he is the gold-medal kid. It would just be, in some ways, a bigger fight.

    Whyte. He's earned a shot.

I like Sasha, think he's a very good boxer, but he's had his time and really should be calling it a day. He had two very creditable tilts at the crown, think that's sufficient.

I agree, but if he earns another shot based on working his way back to that position again I have no qualms with his shot.
For Fury it is definitely better legacy wise to beat Sasha rather than Whyte. More money with Whyte though I think.

Fury said he can't make any money off of Whyte.

I don't know one way or the other.

Povetkin wouldn't duck Pulev for a mandatory spot, that's for sure.
There's also little chance Whyte beats Chagaev, Chambers, Byrd or goes the distance with Wlad back in those days.
Not to mention Whyte is a pos.

I want to see Povetkin get a last shot at glory. The dude has been #2 or #3 in the division his whole life it seems.

I like Povetkin and his unique style, but he is too old, not so fast, getting tired after couple of rounds. In that moment of his career he is declining seriously after every fight. It would be a miracle if he will be the winner at the end.I would like to see him retiring instead of waiting for someone to put him into a hospital.

Better legacy wise I don't agree with that Pov already lost to Joshua, Klitschko, drew with Hunter and was given a gift against Marco Huck while in his prime, 5 years ago maybe Sacha but now Whyte has earned his shot and was injured Vs Joshua when he had him looking very shakey and ready to go.

Whyte. Simply because it is ridiculous for a ranked first contender have to wait that long to challenge for the title.

Sure, but if he beats Whyte then he deserves it. Regarding legacy, once Fury is retired and his resume is reflected upon I think Povetkin will have accomplished more in his career than Whyte will have when it is all said and done.
