We really won't know until the fat lady sings. Margarito is a very dangerous fight for Cotto. It took a lot of guts for Cotto to fight Margarito. Void was afraid of them both, so they will fight each other. I do not know who will win, but I have a gut feeling that Margarito will win by knockout. On paper? I do not know.
Cotto UD 117 - 111 I say Margarito might win a round or two (3 max hence the score I gave) before Cotto settles in and adjust to Margarito's incoming style and starts landing those killer shots to the body and counter punching.
HBO would definately prefer Cotto wins, there can't be any doubt about that. He's one of the only boxing franchises they have left for the future. But why do you think the judges will rig the fight for Cotto? Because of HBO?
This fight will be a lot like the Margarito vs Diaz (WBO belt), and Margarito, IMO, will prevail over 11 hard rounds. Cotto, although very good, is being a tad bit overrated by a lot of his PR fans. His wins against Judah and Mosley were good, but by now everyone should have known what Judah is all about. The Mosley bout was a very close fight that could have gone either way. Mosley is not known as a big puncher, but he definitely had Cotto on the run in the last few rounds. I would say that Margarito is a better puncher than Mosley, so Cotto is going to have real problems if he can't handle Margarito's power. The things that Margarito has going for him right now are two. First, he is mentally stronger than Judah and is really hungry for a big win in a big fight. Two, he is fresher than Mosley, and is bigger and stronger too. He can and should pressure Cotto the full twelve rounds. So the first four rounds should tell us how this fight will go down. Either Cotto looks comfortable taking Margarito's shots while making him pay, or Cotto will be moving like crazy from the fourth round on trying to stay away from Margarito and his onslaught. My pick is Margarito by TKO 11.
Isn't their a preference to vote for the champ in the case the fight is close? Plus, with Cotto's current standing as opposed to Margarito, doesn't he have more of an influence? This is just pure speculation.
