2 absolute legends and all time greats of the Sweet Science.
I have both in my top 20 p4p list.
Record wise, I rank the Ghetto Wizard slightly ahead of Pep.

    Benny Leonard: 9
    Willie Pep: 9

    Fights against champions:
    Benny Leonard: 27
    Willie Pep: 21

    Wins against HOF's:
    Benny Leonard: 7
    Willie Pep: 3

    Fights against HOF's:
    Benny Leonard: 26
    Willie Pep: 10

    World Title Fights:
    Benny Leonard: 11
    Willie Pep: 14

    World Title Defenses:
    Benny Leonard: 9
    Willie Pep: 9

    Career Fights Record:
    Benny Leonard: 185-22-9-3(NC)
    Willie Pep: 229-11-1

    Who do you got ahead?

For what it's worth, in the Classic Survey from a few years ago, Pep was #9 and Leonard was #11.

Leonard for me. I think the Lightweight division he presided over was better than the Featherweight one Pep did, and let's not forget that, while he didn't win the Welterweight title, his performances against Lewis and Britton help tilt the scales in his favour in a pound for pound sense.

No shame in being 1-3 against Saddler, as Saddler was (much as it pains me to admit it, as I'm not a fan) an all-time great himself. And I know, I know - dirty tactics and all that jazz. But if we're comparing two legends we've got to set some pretty demanding standards, and in comparison nobody really had the wood on Leonard definitively in his prime years like that.

The only issue for me here is the reliability of newspaper decisions.
