Both were the "whipping boys" of their respective divisions, Kalule being the Junior Middleweight whipping boy of the 1980's and Carr being the Welterweight whipping boy of the 1990's. Simple question, which "whipping boy" do you rate higher?
Kalule. He pretty much cleaned out the junior middleweights during his prime years. He was forced to since none of the title holders wanted to give him a deserved shot at the title. Carr was lucky to win over Bramble.
Kalule was bar far and way the more accomplished and relevant of the two. Perhaps a better comparison is between Carr and someone like Armando Muniz.
Carr was given big insider hype in the early 90s; Manny thought he had himself a winner, then one ancient Livingstone Bramble fought the next big thing.... Kalule could blow hot and cold, but his hot was a level above Oba, and at his worse, he did not quite plunge to the icy cold depths of a off form Oba. Ayub Kalule over Oba Carr, for me.
