Even though it's a rematch of an outstanding 2009 fight, I, like many, was pissed to hear Golden Boy making the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz rematch PPV, I mean it's gonna be a war no doubt, but is it a necessary fight at all? But I'm all in for this card because Golden Boy might have put the strongest undercard together in years.

Danny Jacobs (20-0) vs. Dmitri Pirog (16-0) for the paper WBO 160 belt is just a fans delight, MW's got talent but that's very bold match-making from Golden Boy which should produce high quality action. In fact, with a combined record of 36-0 with 30KOs, it could be a high caliber shootout, and watch out for Pirog, the big sleeper of the entire show, and maybe the division.

In the other 2 televised fights before Marquez-Diaz, Robert Guerrero fights future HOF-er Joel Casamayor and Jorge Linares takes on HBO4life Rocky Juarez, both fight looking promising. Although Guerrero is facing a 39 year-old veteran, Casamayor is still, by far, the best fighter he's ever faced and could be troubled by the Cuban's savvy style. And of course Juarez just loves a brawl and with Linares not looking as good ever since his shock defeat, he might get it, so that's 4 solid fights on HBO come July 31. Boxrec also lists Sakio Bika vs. Jean-Paul Mendy on the card but I'm not sure it's happening then and there. Would be a great addition to an already outstanding card. :happy

    Thoughts?

I'm more interested in Jacobs vs Pirog to see how Jacobs perform against the relatively unknown Pirog who happens to have a good record.

I'm afraid that at 37 years old, age might finally catch up with JMM. I think 39 year old Casamayor is already shot and Juarez is a proven underachiever. How many title shots Juarez got and came out losing? 5 already?

Pirog isn't relatively unknown to boxing fans who are paying attention to more than just who appears on American TV. :D

It's a good card when in relative context but I still think that this card it getting overrated.

If Katsidis or Khan is being primed to fight the JMM/Diaz winner then it would make a whole lot of sense to showcase them (one or both) on this card, imo. G.B. should have also found a spot to feature Maidana who will surely be in contention to fight any of the aforementioned names sometime down the road.

The undercard definitely makes it worth paying for.
