Obviously Hagler beats both, but who does better? Does GGG's chin, power and come forward style give Marv problems, or does Canelo's slick defence make things more difficult?
I'd take Golovkin. Higher workrate and he can contest Hagler's jab with an equivalent wepon of his own. Canelo's strength besides his counterpunching is that his team is good at gameplanning. Hagler, however, is hard to gameplan for, because he was so versatile. Golovkin's vast experience as an amateur means that he's likely to adapt better to stance switches and style switches than Canelo. Golovkin can box going forward and back, control of space is one of his specialties. Canelo definitely prefers the other guy coming to him.
I think Canelo. Speed was more of a problem for Marvin than strength. Marvin was physically strong, and when big punches were matched against him he seemed to wake up and do well.. When guys used speed and boxing he could be frustrated a little. I think he beats both.
I’d say canelo, his defense, speed, and counter punches would be a problem for hagler, I think ggg’s horrible defense makes this easier for hagler, he could just keep landing clean shots on ggg all night
Canelo. He has the same qualities as Duran, but is a full sized, prime 160. GGG had nothing that Hagler didn't have more of.
Marvin is one of my top 3 favorite fighters of all time (Tito, Pep, Marvin) and I do think he beats both but not easily and of the two I think he has more trouble with Canelo especially on the scorecards
Canelo's stylistic weakness comes to pure boxers IMO. Seen vs Floyd, Khan, Lara, Trout etc. He also has lackluster stamina. The fact that Hagler is a sandbag fisted, southpaw boxer-puncher with ridiculous conditioning is only bad news for Canelo. Hagler will move out of range, stick a ramrod jab in Nelo's face and work the body. He'll do something similar and equally painful to GGG, but at least GGG will have the stamina to remain competitive for longer.
Hagler. Power...iron chin...ambidextrous...well schooled boxer. He had a LOT of tools and styles he could present.
I don't remember Hagler having much trouble against defensive Fighters. Sure, he took a while hunting them down but he never had any real trouble. I do remember him having to dig deep against Hamsho the first time and having to hit Juan Domingo Roldan in the eye with his thumb because he was getting over powered. Mugabi, only a Light Middle, had Marvin on the brink too. Golovkin, with his big jab and power in both hands plus his appetite for a punch up would give Marvin nightmares. Alvarez would spend so long looking for chances to counter that the fight would be gone before he realised it. Hagler and Golovkin has the makings of an utter clasiic.
GGG would do better. Based on Marvelous Marvins career and specifically his gazelle like right hand jab, which he used to close distance. Canelo would do well for the first few rounds as Hagler jabbed him but Canelo wouldn’t hurt Hagler. After round three or four Hagler usually figured out defensive counter punchers and hunted them down like a predator. Hagler by UD... Unless it’s fought at a catchweight, in Vegas with multiple rehydration clauses and a steady diet of tainted meat with CJ Ross and Adalaide Byrd as judges.
