Who'd give Jon Jones the toughest fight out of these five guys?

Lyoto Machida would certainly test his patience and would be something entirely new for him, stylistically.

 

A fully fit & active Shogun Rua is a shogun from pride when he won rampage and before all the knee surgerys.

lyoto machida would be very interesting but shogun destroyd him and jones might watch the tape and do the same thing.
Anderson Silva is a great striker and his GG is underates IMO.

phil davis i dont know we havent seen so much from him to jugde yet.

None. A guy like Cain Velasquez can trouble him with wrestling and sheer strength.

 

Velasquez vs Jones is the fight I'd most want to see from him eventually.

Other than Davis is best placed because he has the physical gifts to compete with Jones, however his overall game needs to develop before he can face Jones.

Silva's main weakness is his takedown defense. Perhaps he can use his speed and movement to avoid giving Jones the angles he needs for the takedown but if Jones gets a clear shot, Silva's surely going down. And while Silva has shown the ability to catch people in submissions I'm not sure he'd be able to do that with a fighter as big and seemingly well-conditioned as Jones.

 

I think Machida would give Jones a pretty difficult fight. Until you fight Machida you really have no idea what your up agianst as the man is a very unique fighter. Jones isnt used to guys backing up, backing up and then jumping in with a strike the way Machida does. Jones is a good striker but I just havent seen enough of him outside his fancy moves. Machida would really test him IMO. Also Jones ALWAYS gets the takedown but does he do it vs Machida so easily ? Jones usually closes the distance no problem but with Machida's own agility it may be difficult, hes hard to get ahold and takedown. I think Machida vs Jones would be a great fight.

 

Don't fool yourself, Anderson Silva is good enough to make it a fight. I think he would have the advantage the longer they are striking.

Gotta give Henderson a punchers chance, but I think Machida has just as good of a shot as Silva.

 

Davis has the tools to be competitive I think, he's strong, athletic and hard to pin down, I think he'd get beaten standing though.

 

People are delusional saying a "prime" Shogun. Get over it already!!! Shogun NEVER had the skillset or athleticism to deal with Jones. Not even close.

 

If you're going to include Anderson Silva you may as well take away the poll options because he's the toughest challenge for any fighter even up to heavyweight. Jon Jones isn't ready for Anderson Silva yet - but let's see what things look like one year from now.

 

if im not completely misstaken belfort was a HW champ and a LHW champ tho not at the same time and he still lost to silva

 

Ive seen all of Phil Davis fights, especially the last one where he couldnt even take old man Rogerio down and was outstruck in a close fight.

Jones will destroy him very easily and if Phil can bring a baseball bat into the cage, its still a pick em fight for me.

Plus, Davis isnt much better than Bader in wrestling (both are all american studs) and Bader actually has KO power.
Jones treated and made Bader looked like some scrawny 150 pounder who was in the wrong weight class.
