Who'd have the better chance of winning: HOPKINS (v Hagler) or MAYWEATHER (v Sweet P)

It's off the top of my head...i'll do some more research later on and get back to you on that.

 

I think whitaker would probably win the fight but see it as closer than most so i'll play devils advocat

Firstly and the only chance floyd has is to take away pea's jab from him, what makes this fight so difficult for floyd is that the 2 major weapons he struggles against are a good jab and a southpaw fighter. Whitaker had one of the finest jabs ever. However the best punch to counter a southpaw jab with is a straight right, which is floyd best punch, he need to land that early and often, if he can do that and make whitaker a bit wary of using it its a much closer fight.

Both are superb on the defence, floyd i think needs to be a lot busier than he fights now and try and match whitaker workrate which will be high, 30 punches a round are not going to win him the fight. Also he got to use the times where whitaker is very agressive to his best advantage with his superb countering skills and accuracy.He also cannot let whitaker win all of the early rounds, if he can keep it tight for the 1st 6 mayweather has got a uncanny abiility to make adjustments to his style and come on late which is what he would have to do here.

It would not be easy and whitaker has to be favoured heavily, but nor is it impossible

 

When I said stronger, I actually meant hits harder (honestly), Im not sure who is stronger between Pea & FMJ, your right about Whitaker having a strong deceptive physique, he showed it vs the bull that is Chavez.

I agree with Floyd's father. He was measurably vulnerable to southpaws.

I'll go with Hopkins' chances with that in mind.

 

I rate both their chances as slim. I'd probably be more surprised if Mayweahter beat Whitaker, but a win for Hopkins would shock me just about as much.

I don't see this being a 50-50 fight like most here are saying. Hopkins was not beaten a fighter NEAR as good as Hagler.

 

Hopkins is strong, but is he that strong? I think it would be a "styles make fights" kind of battle. Hopkins is crafty but in no way could he KO Hagler. If it became a war Hopkins would obviously lose. Close call.

PBF, although I think he is a total *******, is one skilled fighter. If we have prime Sweet Pea, not the coked version, this will be an amazing fight. Two defensive masters with very decent offense. I don't think they will bring one punch KO power, so I see this being a SD, or UD. If somehow, one of them gets the better of the other, then you could see a late accumulation stoppage. PBF had troubles with Zab, another lefty, so you'd have to say that is a big bonus for Whittaker, who definitely doesn't have "emotional" problems.

Overall, after analysing it, I'd say Hopkins has a slightly better chance, but this is a real pick'em scenario. Hagler could KTFO Hopkins while I don't think Pea is going to KTFO Floyd.

 

Both Floyd & Bernard would get blown out in one way or the other against the ATG's.
They can't touch Hagler or Whitaker.

 

I really don't see hagler KO hopkins, hopkins has a great chin and brilliant defence, both fights mentioned are going the distance apart from some unforseen injury or a cut

 

Nope, but guys like Hearns, Leonard (who I think Hagler beat) and Sibson, Roldan, Hamsho, Antuofermo are closer to the likes of Hopkins (ability wise) than the middleweight garbage on Bernard's resume is to Marvin Hagler.

The best middleweights Hopkins fought he lost against.
