I think the Liston before he fought Cassius Clay KO Lennox every time. Lennox is a good big champion, but I don't think he has the meanness to beat guys like Liston.

Good Point, Liston has many similarities with Tyson. But let's not forget, Tyson was shot when he fought Lewis, a prime Tyson would give the Brit much more problems. Either way, Lennox beats Tyson and Liston.

And lol at the "prime Holy kills LL" comment. Holyfield fans talk as if prime Lewis was some kind of a bum. I can't believe ppl can be so blinded "hardcore" fans.

An interesting fight and anyone who suggests a blow put is just talking out of their arse. Liston was a terror, an immensely strong fighter when he was able to apply it but watching him against Ali his footwork and speed were not his strong points.

I think it goes into the latter rounds with Lewis boxing smart off the back foot and tieing up when in trouble, leaning on Liston and wearing his legs out. With what we have seen of Liston I believe he would be frustrated and lose the will to win with Lewis by late TKO.

Liston was a strong guy, a walk forward fighter but Lewis is too big, too skilled and too fast to simply think you are going to walk him down.

No, I'm saying just because he says something doesn't make it gospel.

I didn't say anything of the sort. I didn't even imply that. Your entire argument is based on putting words into my mouth that I didn't say.

Show me where I disagreed with this.

... so what the hell was that essay at the beginning for? That was ALL I was saying and you agree. :patsch

Again, I never said Winky could blow Tito out if he wanted, but I was never even saying that, although he was capable of changing his style if needed.
I was pointing out that he didn't need to change anything, and neither did Lennox. They both won easily by doing what was working.

So I guess two of the best boxers in the last 20 years agree with me. I'm happy with that even if I never convince you otherwise. :good

Thankyou for providing evidence for MY point. :good
Against McCall - he got caught AT THE PRECISE MOMENT THAT HE WAS GOING FOR A POWER-SHOT OF HIS OWN! If he had fought defensively, he would have never been dropped. You yourself seem confident that he would have won a POINTS victory.

Against Rahman - he had no respect for Rahman, so fought lazily with his hands down. Had he fought more carefully, he would have won. He also won by stepping it up in the return, this is true. But Rahman is no Liston.
AGAIN, the result in the Tyson fight prove that the tactics he used were 10000% the correct tactics.

    The FACTS Prove me right.

He won easily against Tyson by fighting a tactically careful fight.

He lost against Rahman and McCall by being too offensive or overconfident of getting his man out of there.

By basing your prediction on Sonny being vastly superior in adaptability than one of the best HW's in history, based on a couple of minor tactical changes against lesser opponents.

    Semantics.

I believe you are intelligent enough to understand my point.

Lennox was very good, but far from perfect. He was arrogant and overlloked opponents. And was made to pay for that as we all saw. No fighter is beyond criticism.

    Ah, whatever.

This is a mythical match that will never happen so opinions are meaningless. I've already wasted too much of my life in this tedious debate.

Liston KO1 Lennox. Happy now? :good

What did you heartless *******s do to poor old paulfv ?

    He seems to have disappeared.

I was looking forward to hearing more about his beast of a weight-lifting brother and maybe benefit from some of his advice on writing and rhetoric.

It's not every day a genuine patented genius comes on here and confers with us peons.

You need to make nicey with him again or we'll lose out on all that boxing knowledge forever.

Mate, I DON'T think Lewis had a weak chin.
Actually he is one of my favourite fighters.
I just informed cuchulain about paulfv's whereabouts ;)

[/edit] the many vids he posted were in fact only 2.

Forget vids, how much his brother can bench is the important issue.
