Who'd Win Lennoxx Lewis or Sonny Liston ?

    People that moved forward into lewis got hit with the uppercut :good

    Lewis is so much bigger and stronger as well for the inside, so he is more skilled, bigger, stronger, faster but liston will win lol pull the other one

    More skilled - not in my view. If I had to say I would guess that Liston was the better composite puncher and was technically more sound as a mover, if slightly less dynamic.

    Bigger - check

    Stronger - check, I think. I would be interested to see a contested clinch though, Liston was monstorously strong. I think it's probably true but I think contesting clinches would not be wisdom for either man - unless he is confidne of having better stamina, and I think that is very very close. Wrestling might be a good technique for a fighter who thinks he is losing.

    Faster - Lewis is faster.


    But this is video game analysis. You take into no account for styles. If I was drawing up a nightmare for Lewis on paper I would write - Granite jawed puncher with good tehnnical skills. That's Sonny.

    If you go back to my first post, I wrote that it would be a good fight. I think Sonny would win. You think Lewis would win. That's fine with me. You seem to think it would be an easy assingment for Lewis. I think that is laughable.

    Liston was knocked out by a punch from a medium powered heavyweight. A A punch that might not even have hit him.

    Think about that. If you base your appraisal of Liston's chin on Ali II you'll come up wrong.

    So he's about as punch resistant as Bruce Seldon?
    Either he got koed by a weak ass punch, or he took a dive. Either one sspeaks volumes. He lacks jaw or heart...
    That spells disaster against 0ne of the best skilled, power hitting, big men, Lewis.

    You seem to pick against Lewis quite a lot and also have a bit of the more politically correct Zakman in terms of chin checking, not nearly as bad, but it factors in to your picks quite a lot....hmmm mabye im wrong dunno. Also you have coined the term: "video game analysis", wish I had a catch phrase:| .

    But apart from that. Explain why Lewis would be at a styles disadvantage, with out including anything about a chin?

    Lewis would have beaten a prime Holyfield more often than not. I see most appear to agree on that too, so it's not actually that crazy, really is it?

    "Composite punching" is mine too!

    1 - Muhammad Ali
    2 - Joe Louis
    3 - Sonny Liston
    4 - Lennox Lewis
    5 - Joe Frazier

    I rate Lewis very very highly, I just don't fancy him against the true composite punchers of the division. I make Louis and Liston slender favourites and Tyson, the divisions other amazing puncher, a 50.50. Lewis' chin troubles are a reality and need to be dealt with, even by those of us who love him.

    Style troubles for Lewis with Liston. Constant pressure, but he's rarely overcommited. That's perfect for beating Lewis. They have an identical reach, but Lewis needs to be very careful about jabbing with Liston because he really, really hurt peopel with his jab - having said that, Lewis follows his over better, if he can make the one two work for him, that's his best chance. He also has to avoid getting hit with a shorter punch though, commiting is so dangerous against this type of puncher.

    A prime Sonny Liston would send Lewis to sleep within 3 rounds.

    Not to get too pernicity over it, mostly because I am busy. :D. But their reach on paper may be identical but in actual fact Lewis was signifcantly taller and had a handspeed advantage. Meaning that he would be able to more easily get power on his punches because he was punching down at the target.

    Basically I see Lewis being able to land enough on Liston coming forward at him because of his height and handspeed advantages more than Liston will be able to land on him and as much as you can say Liston was "iron chinned" which he was not, he could be hurt, it is a phrase too loosly thrown around about fighters from the past. He would not be able to walk through Lewis nor would he try and if Lewis tagged him clean with a big right I would expect Liston to be hurt.

    Lewis would work his 1-2 and essentially land on Sonny more than Sonny would land on him over the peice. When he is in good nick Lewis has taken so pretty massive shots. Still it could be ended with one shot but I do not see it.

    I think Lewis would win a close ish UD.

    Anyway. I am off to study......:barf

    Lewis would knock him out. Liston was used to being the bigger man, not against Lewis.
