    If Liston lands flush with the right hand, it is all over for Lewis. I take Liston by KO, if it goes the distance I favor Lewis.

    I would take Lennox. Liston was slow and mentally fragile.

    **** me. A decent thread at last.

    Bearing in mind my avatar, Lewis wins this fairly comprehensively. Rd 8ish me thinks.

    When you think in your minds eye the best shots from each fighter I can see Lewis giving Sonny a bit of a beating with nice jabs and big UC's. Lennox was a VERY bright fighter, and could unpick Sonny without too much trouble.No war.

    I like Sonny, but he is grossly overrated in mythical matchups against certain bigs.

    IF...that's what they all say.

    If Tyson, Tua, Vitali, etc, etc, landed flush, it is supposed to be all over for Lewis.

    Well I have these fights on tape and they did all land cleanly on Lewis. :-(

    Lewis by KO around 5. Bigger, faster and more skilled. How many years did Liston reign for again? Someone remind me how many world title fights he won? Liston was good...but I dont think he was that good like Lewis was. This is a bit like those old Lewis vs Marciano threads to me. Same result in my mind Lewis KO 5. Marciano and Liston were overrated IMO. A peak Tyson would have destroyed them both also.

    only a half inch over 6 feet? 4 losses only 4 world title fights...2 against Patterson and 2 against Ali. Hardly longevity is it. Maybe he just won the title too late just as Ali was coming on the scene hey? Quite a few nobodies went the whole distance with him looking at his record and some of you think he'd have KO'd Lewis?

    Cus Damato is quite candid about his determination in freezing out Liston from the title shot. Becase Sonny was a contriversial figure there was no real pressure on him to do otherwise from the media. It was Patterson himself, a throroughly decent man, who insistsed that Liston be given the shot.

    If you get into their records you will see that Listonw as fighting the very best fighters during Patterson's reign, whilst Patterson fought guys from the second teir, and even staged a defence against an 0-0-0 opponents. If fair was fiar, Liston would have had a number of defences against the best of the era.

    He's the definition of longevity. Liston was thrown to the wolves early doors, matched with contenders inside of ten fights. It's my thought that his Mafia bosses saw him as an opponent and a leg-breaker, not world title material. But he proved them wrong by beating everybody.

    Yes. This is another part of his tragedy, he lifted the title just as the best heavyweight ever, who also happened to be his stylistic cryptonite, crashed in upon the scene.

    Who?!
    It seems odd to dismiss the possibility given that he'd probably be the best boxer that Lewis had ever faced, and certainly the best composite puncher.
