I can honestly say I was not swayed by the commentary in this one. I literally watched rounds 3 and 4. After the 3rd round, I said to myself "that was a close round, they'll probably give it to GGG but it really could have gone either way".

After the 4th round, I said to myself "that was a clear Monroe round". When I saw the punch stats being even flashed towards the end of the round, I thought "hrmmm I have Monroe winning this round comfortably at this point" despite such an even punch stat round in terms of landed punches.

This was before a 10-9 round was ever given to Monroe on the unofficial cards. I am making this point because I know sometimes people get swayed by the unofficial cards and / or punch stats. In this case, that was my gut reaction to watching both rounds. Sometimes it's human nature to "give a round" to a guy who comes up with a solid round after losing a few rounds or when down by a lot of points.

I think you could say that is the case for Round 3 but not for Round 4. Round 3 was probably a GGG round but it was definitely way closer than rounds 1 and 2. You could theoretically give it to Monroe or score it even. Round 4 though was clear Monroe from what I recall even before I saw the unofficial scorecard.

What made this fight interesting was that Monroe was landing hard punches in between GGG's bursts. Like his jabs were harder punches than say Trout's jabs on Canelo a while back. Monroe actually (unlike Trout) actually had snap on his punches, so I think we were more willing to give Monroe rounds where he actually was landing and slightly bothering GGG.

That round 2 really just destroyed Monroe. Hitting the canvas twice and getting up really tired him out. He got a 2nd wind in rounds 3 and 4 but after that those early knockdowns caught up with him mentally and physically. He lost his concentration and that is needed at all times when you are fighting GGG.
