i think tha last person to have the ability to achieve wat louis achieved was tyson after beating berbick. 20 years of age and champion he could have achieved 30 title defences and have retired by the time he was 30. i cant see anyone else doing it, seems to me the heavyweight division is full of cruisers who have moved up or easter europeans who dont end up goin pro till mid late 30s, the whole system has changed it will not ever be done again at this weight, calzaghe could have at the lower weight but is only fighting two more fights.

It's much harder in this day and age. In Louis' time didn't he get to pad his defence record with the so-called "bum of the month" series, which probably couldn't be done nowadays? Although old timers will always insist that standards were better in their day, the overall standard of average boxers is considerably higher, given all the advances in training, conditioning etc.
The best bet would be some German champion who holds a WBO title and defends only in his home town. Think Sven Ottke, Dariusz Michalczewksi, Henry Maske types. If there's a good young German based fighter they might be able to beat Louis and/or Marciano's record. :)

No one will break that record.

If someone can do more than 25 title defenses..that is Joe Calzaghe.

But he's looking for the money, he's going to fight Hopkins at 175.

Any HW who masters the check hook can do it.

Indeed, they simply fought more often back then due to less money and less competent opponents, such as Galento, who if anybody looks at critically, will see that it's a statement for that entire era that he even competed.

Galento may be the worst 'fighter' I've ever seen.

Exactly, Tyson did have the best chance to achieve that seeing he was what like 20 years old when he won his first title and looked unbeatable, I cant see anyone beating that record in the near future.

its not gonna happen anytime soon because like u said, the top hws fight no more than 2-2.5x/year. somebody like tyson has to do it when they are very young and maintain that dominance for like 12-15 years. nearly impossible and there is no one like that around.

wlad has 8 successful wbo/ibf defences. even if he dominates the divsion for the next 5 years and fights 2.5x/year that's like what 12 or 13 fights for a total of about 20.

i think lennox has 14 or 15 defences. povetkin is too old. haye will probably pick up a belt but his lack of defense and chin will keep him from the consistency needed.

Calvin Brock and Ray Austin would be considered tomato cans in any area, Wlad has a long way to go before he even cracks the top 10 ATG list, the fact he lost to guys like Purrity, Brewster, and Sanders, doesnt help his chances very much IMO.

I know you are a Wlad fan, I couldnt help but throw that in there.:D

I think its pretty clear now after his last fight its pretty clear now that Brock is not what his record suggested, watching him fight Chambers with no skill or power it seemed to me he never really was that good to begin with. Wlad was too cautious when they fought, which helped him win a couple rounds on the scorecard, but once Wlad realized that his oppenent was ****, he finished me off with a vicious hook.
