Kessler is a real class act, nice guy, solid boxer, nothing you could really dislike about him imo. I think highly of both guys but Joe has said some stupid things of late so Kessler edges him in my books.
Damn Dec, it seems you're making a big comeback with these threads! I rooted for Calzaghe but Kessler earned huge respect in the fight. I like them both.
As a person, Kessler. I prefer to watch his style to the current Calzaghe's too. Peak Calzaghe was something else though.
I always try to avoid thinking of boxers in terms of "like" or "dislike" as I don't know them, and it makes you less objective if you think of boxers in this way. I prefer to rate them purely on their boxing careers, as I hated Floyd Mayweather throughout his career because of his personality, and now I realize I was an idiot, as the guy was a supreme boxer that I should have been enjoying more while he was around. However, Calzaghe is someone I find it very difficult to like or respect as a man. I think he is a very talented fighter, and I think he is a better fighter than Kessler, so in essence I like him more as a fighter than Kessler. But after reading Joe's autobiography in which he states that Roy Jones was already "shot" (yes, that's the word he used) back in '04 and '05 when Tarver and Johnson beat him, I think he is quite a repulsive character. What sort of man beats up a shot legend for cash, when there are great challenges out there like Kessler and Dawson/Tarver? And the way he is trying to build this joke of a fight up by pretending this Jones is a danger to him is both insulting and infuriating. As a fighter I like Calzaghe. As a man I like Kessler.
Kessler will win this as Calzaghe is British and the US nation is pretty anglophobic. They discredit British fighters as much as they can. Kesslers hlaf British anyway as his mum is from Salisbury but as long as he keeps that under wraps the US voters will vote for him even though hes achieved **** all compared to Joe. Joe is a US legend killer remember.
Joe has said some stupid things all through his career. He's always contradicted himself, hence the fact that there are all those quotes out there that people can drag up now saying 'omg Joe said Jones was washed up' or 'omg Joe said he wouldn't fight Jones unless he was paid the crown jewels'. The only difference now is that the things he says are more widely broadcast. In answer to the thread question, if I was choosing who to have a drink and a chat with, I would choose Kessler without a doubt.
just re-read your sensationalist bull****? just to confirm.... was larry holmes repulsive for fighting ali? kostya and DLH for fighting JCC? tyson for fighting larry? pac for squeezing all he could out of MAB? rocky marciano for picking on joe louis? ali for sadistically ****ing up an aging cleveland williams? wlad for luring a half blind lamon brewster into a rematch? please, there may be better fights out there for calzaghe than RJJ but no one held a gun to roy's head and forced him to sign the contract. roy's not taking the fight because he has to scrape his pennies together to feed his children, roy thinks he can win. so spare us your "won't some body please think of the children!!!!" garbage.
