What?Dean Francis?Where did you get this? It's not on boxrec.Anyway the guy is ****,clearly not in the top 20 to say the least,he is a 34 year old has never been with a prepasturous ranking.Recently I saw his last fight with Oakey I believe and it was his biggest win.I remember Jaffa Ballogou did a number on him,and that was moons ago.Erdei should outbox him easy ....again.Defence gone wrong for Erdei? They don't say judges are corrupt in Germany for nothing,he lost both his fight with Garay, one of them being daylight robbery.Garay ****ing won those fights
Found it on a Polish boxing website - http://www.bokser.org - which quotes 'Hungarian media'. Sadly, given Erdei's past history I think it is quite believable... I couldn't agree more on Garay. So when I say defense gone wrong - particularly in Germany - I mean a KO. And a heavy one at best, so that even veeeery slow counting doesn't leave him enough time to wake up.
So, after Hopkins' win, there will always be an odd man out in the RJJ, Hopkins, Calzaghe triangle. The worst outcome - from Chad's point of view - is probably RJJ winning over Calzaghe and agreeing to fight BHOP (if he woudn't want to fight BHOP I really doubt he'd go for Dawson). I think Joe would then retire (assuming there is no rematch clause). He certainly wouldn't risk a second loss fighting Dawson. However, if Calzaghe wins and decides not to retire - whom could he possibly pick for his last fight in Wales? I can't think of a single name more credible than Dawson. Assuming, that is, that he's interested in a credible and challenging last fight...
I don't think Dawson has a formal deal with Showtime, but Gary Shaw -- his promoter -- does. This is why Jeff Lacy fought only on Showtime until losing and splitting with Shaw. I believe that technically Dawson can fight on HBO, but considering that EliteXC is a Showtime MMA vehicle run by Shaw, odds are that Dawson won't fight on HBO anytime soon.
I like your posts, Mr. Noob. Hope you stick around. Agreed on Dawson's perspective. If Calzaghe wins, Joe pretty much has to retire or fight Dawson in a farewell fight. Or revert to his pre-Lacy days and insult the public. Not that he owes anyone anything at this point, as he generally has fought top competition the past two-plus years. If Jones wins, that takes the Calzaghe and Hopkins options off the table. My guess is that Calzaghe defeats Jones and takes a soft touch in his finale, and then Hopkins and Jones fight anyway, as long as Jones is competitive. But I'd love to see Dawson get a crack at one of these guys before it's too late.
He should fight Hopkins and the Jones/Calzaghe winner. I think he can beat all 3. I think he is unbeatable at this weight.
Thanks man, appreciated. As was the stuff on Shaw / Showtime and HBO. I agree with you. I think the desire to retire undefeated will prevail and Calzaghe will go for an easy final defense. Clinton Woods, perhaps if he manages to win - for an all British finale? Or Froch at some catch weight, if Froch wins the WBC? I wouldn't be too surprised... On Dawson - I'd love to see him tested by other members of the 'Old Guard'. It would put his wins over Johnson and Tarver in perspective. Though I'm sure it wouldn't totally silence the critics - who'd argue they were long shot anyway...
