I'm tired of all these "top 10 heavyweights of all time" discussions when most of those guys wouldn't be heavyweights today.

Who are the top 10 REAL heavyweights (by modern standards) ie. guys who weigh comfortably over 200 pounds and wouldn't be able to cut weight to fight at cruiserweight (except by maybe severely draining themselves)?

    In no particular order...

    Vitaly Klitschko
    Wlad Klitschko
    Lennox Lewis
    Rid**** Bowe
    George Foreman
    Anthony Joshua
    Tyson Fury
    Frank Bruno
    Deontay Wilder

Mike Tyson and Povetkin are quite heavy too despite being short. So I'd give my 10th spot to Mike Tyson.

    Did I forget anyone here?

I don't think guys from the past like Carnera were good enough to compete with elite modern super HWs, he was more like Valuev of his era, an anomaly.

First you have to better define what a "Superheavyweight" is. For example are Ali and Holmes shw's cause that dramatically changes the list. If they aren't shw's why not?

Of course they aren't. I specifically said people who can't cut weight to cruiserweight. Ali fought bellow the cruiserweight limit in his early fights and would have easily cut weight for the rest of his career. Super-HW = 240 range

I guess Butterbean is a SHW, being 240 lbs plus and all.

    Primo Carnera? Willard? Baer?

Are you saying Wilder, Povetkin and Tyson couldn't have cut down to 200 pounds ?
Wilder was in the 91kg class in the 2008 Olympics, at 22 years of age. He's been struggling to bulk up ever since.
Tyson was in the same class as an amateur.
Povetkin looked soft most of his career.

Athletes can cut about 10% body weight for a day-before weigh-in just by water loading/cutting and reducing carb and salt intake.
So almost any muscular hydrated 220 pounder should be able to make 200 pounds for the weigh in.

The term Super heavyweight has no set definition.

I say it's anyone who's 6'4" or taller, with a 78" reach or greater that weighs over 230 pounds in shape. These days most of the top prospect and champions hit the above definition or are very close to checking all three boxes.

The proven ones. Ring Magazine champions

    Lewis
    Vitali
    Wlad
    Bowe
    *Foreman, 90's version.

The alphabet champions, a tier below:

    Bruno
    Tucker

    The unproven ones

Joshua - Has great tools. Needs to fight a top ten guy, and sorry Martin was over rated and will never sniff the top ten again.

Fury - In shape he's a very tall and active big man. New champion, needs more fights to grade

Wilder - Exposed in victory vs top 20-30 types, I think he's going out as soon as he faced a top 5 level opponent.

Historical giants, who might be better than the unproven ones:

    Willard
    Carnera
    Godfrey

Quite a few amateurs in the Olympics, who may turn professional. Most notably Hrgovic, Dychko and Yoka. Hrgovic and Yoka are 6'5" tall. Dychko is 6'9" tall.

I think the key here is "in shape". Lennox Lewis weighed 227 when he crushed Razor Ruddock. He fought most of his career out of shape.

    The Top Five are

    Lewis
    Wlad
    Vitali
    Bowe
    Fury

From that point forth it gets pretty slim given that there aren't that many truly good super heavyweights.

To say Tyson is a super-heavyweight is ridiculous. Mike was a small heavyweight.

To me a Super has to be over 6'4" and 240 lbs.
