I don't think either of them are/were massively protected.

Nobody gave a **** about fighting some unknown outside of Britain) Welsh fighter with a WBO belt until Jeff Lacy tried his luck. Since then, Calzaghe made a real name for himself and was able to fight some good competition.

Mayweather (who I absolutely hate) has fought some great names and beat them all. You could pick holes in some of those fights but you could in a lot of resumes.
They only thing you could say against Floyd professionally is that he hasn't fought Pacquaio (and lets remember it was him who started all this testing ****).
That would seem to be a career definer for Floyd and I think he's gonna suffer if it doesnt happen.

i dont know about protected....they have both fought risky fights in the past ,calz v lacy v kessler,v hopkins, were all risky and past calzaghes prime but he still took them on.

pbf less so but he has fought some big names who could of potentially beat him.

Joe fought in a fairly weak division, but he did fight everybody, same can't be said about Mayweather at 140lbs and 147lbs.

i used to think it was calzaghe. but now after 4/5 years and floyd has not fought a single elite welterweight and pass up fighting a great one in pac by using excessive demands that ****ed up the fight, i have to say that floyd could have surpassed slappy from being the more protected one. at least calzaghe have fought hopkins towards the end of his career.

i would say PBF's but its VERY close but calzaghe actually fought 2 dangerous opponents at the end and i cant say floyds fought anyone as dangerous as hopkins and jones

Calzaghe wont leave England for the majority of his career beats lacy and kessler and then fights a few 40 year olds. Impressive.

He just waited until they were ready to retire.

PBF jumped weight classes and fought the best. Joe didnt have to stay in his "fairly weak division" He just knew that moving to 175 meant having to face a prime Roy Jones so he waited until he seen him knocked out a few times to make sure he was nice and shot so it would be safe.
