    Martinez is the most proven guy at 130, but though Lomachenko's the best at 130 without having fought there declaring him 'number 1' if he wins isn't fair to Vargas, especially if he beats Salido. Obviously what makes sense is matching the winners, and with HBO in on them it shouldn't be hard to make.

    130 is my fave division right now. With Walters and Gamboa too there's so many great possible matchups.

    I will take Vargas... Basically a bigger, stronger, harder hitting Salido. Vargas is in his prime also

    Yeah but so did Fury and there's much dispute as to whether he's "the man" at heavy - for the same exact reason. (Wlad and Takashi were both ripe for the picking)

    Dispute about what? Whether or not Wlad was ripe for the picking, Fury beat the lineal champion, so he's the lineal champion now. Seems pretty clear-cut to me.

    Yeah but is he the best heavyweight? Technically at light heavy the current "man" is Adonis Stevenson, but how many think he's the best @175lbs?

    How many thought Cotto was the best middleweight during his lineal reign?

    Uchiyama was never the man though, just the long reigning number 1.

    It is up for debate but I'll say Corrales for now.

    "Beat the man" sounds nice in theory but is predicated on the idea of the incumbent 'man' being the CURRENT hardest man in the division to beat...not grandfathered in based on bygone h2h standing and distant achievement without happening to have lost in the ring since becoming diminished (be it due to clever matchmaking, lengthy time of, whatever) as is sometimes the case. That little wrinkle complicates matters and makes "beat the man" an imperfect philosophy.

    People saying Lomachenko/Martinez are crazy. Martinez should have, at the very least, one loss to Salido.

    Salido already beat both Lomachenko and Martinez. If Vargas beats Salido, he's the #1 in the division, hands down.

    I sort of agree. Depends on whether we're discussing champion or number 1.

    At MW these are two different men, at SBW these are one and the same. At SFW there is no real champ since Pac left the division.

    We have 3 realistic choices here. Corrales, Salido v Vargas, Martinez v Lomachenko. Miles away from a definitive choice imo.

    I see it as narrower. To me the Lomachenko vs. Martínez winner isn't eligible to be #1 (despite leading the poll :roll).

    The latter would have beaten a non-SFW, even if Lomachenko might be higher rated p4p than anyone in the division. The former would've picked up a solid W in his debut at the weight, but not the current #1 guy (in fact you could argue Martínez as low as number 10 in the division)

    The question then becomes how weighty Corrales' dethroning of the previous man in Uchiyama is compared with Salido's or Vargas' sum win records at the weight (including each other). :think
