Who's a better all round fighter, Pacquao or Calzaghe?

Pac is more versatile than Calzaghe. Pac boxed on the outside against Oscar and Diaz. He countered against Hatton. He swarmed Barrera. He played rope-a-dope against Cotto. He slugged it out with Morales in the rematch. He does it all man.

You can say "Pacquiao is mainly a graet slugger" but also "Calzaghe is mainly a high volume puncher". Versatility is about being able to do what you are mainly not. Calzaghe can get on his toes and box on the outside, thats true. But Pac can do that too.

On the flip side Calzaghe can't counter like Pac. He can't do a rope-a-dope like Pac. He can't go punch for punch like Pac.

Get my drift? Pac on a whole other level in every facet of his game.

 

Cal does have the "0" something Pac doesn't have.

 

pac came from nothing in the philippines. fighting pro since he was 16. he didn't have daddy to show him how to box. he didn't have no amateur career.

He does have the better opponents on his record.

 

Calzaghe's got great skills, but he paws with his punches too much. If he went against an opponent who could walk through most punches (Pavlik) I think we'd have seen him lose that "0".

 

Pacquiao has far more punching power and the edge in speed and has succeeded at more weights against a better level of opposition, he has also tested his chin against bigger punchers. Calzaghe is awkward and probably better than most people give him credit for but sadly he decided not to showcase his skills against the top fighters of his time so Pacquiao, clearly.

I remember he was always hating on Pac. But after Pac beat Cotto, he just up and vanished.

Poor guy.

 

I voted 4 Pac but I can easily see why sum voted Calzaghe.
Facing better opposition doesn't neccesserily mean you're a better all-round boxer.
Mayweather hasn't fought as good opposition as Pac.

 

he didnt fought the best...and stayed at a prticular weight almost his entire carrer, in his own backyard to boot..

some would say he didnt beat bhop...

 

Why should he not? Cotto and Quartey are fairly even.

You forgot to do an open poll + Pac has a lot of fans here on the general, Calzaghe has a lot of haters.

Pac is certainly greater but both know how to fight & win well, both guys would be nightmares to face in their weight class, Pac is dangerous in so many ways, can take you out in a flash, never stops coming & Calzaghe is very very awkward, good at adapting & like Manny, great stamina & never stops until the job is done.

I voted `even` because the other 2 options say `definitely better` which I dont agree with... I probably could have choosen one over the other if the options never said `definitely.`

 

don't sit on the fence... one of these fighters will become a legend and mentioned in 50 years time. the other won't. you don't need me to tell who which one is which.

 

What a stupid question Joe Calzaghe is way more versatile that Pacquao but no doubt Pacman will recieve 90% of the votes due to the the usual bitter Yank posters.

 

Joe Calzaghe never fought the kind of talent that Pacman has fought. Watch Danny Green v. Roy Jones, Andre Ward v. Mikkel Kessler, Roy Jones v. Jeff Lacy for the evidence of this.
